Hi folks:

Just a quick poll to see if you like having the usenet posts here or not.

Why not? I think it's kind of cool. You don't have to view or use them on the web board if you don't want to. And, if you do, it saves time from having to download hundreds of headers you don't want to view, SPAM, etc., whereas you can just not click on a link you don't want to here and not have to download anything extra.

Yeah, I had read this thread, before I read the others. I can see the problem now, definitely. I never used that option to have it show all new posts, as I just surf the forum as I see it, since that suits me well enough (and because I use different computers, I don't have the information saved in both to match the same information and result in re-reading old posts in the list of new posts, make sense?) So, the way I use the boards, it doesn't affect me, but after reading the other posts with people describing the problem, I can see how it would be a problem. :-)

My ISP's news servers are really poor and I stopped going to the news groups a while ago anyway, due to all the ego's, SPAM and trolls -- and because mainly my news servers would drop the posts all the time, so I thought it was pretty cool here. However, in light of the problem, I think perhaps the scripts can be changed to simply ignore the NG categories and leave them on the board, but keep them separate.. if not, removing them seems like it would be the only other reasonable option.

I vote no, but then I've spent years arguing that people shouldn't even use a web browser's lame usenet implementation to read news from an nntp server (use a newsreader, or nothing at all, that's my motto!), so my purist view is probably out of the mainstream.

Next question: Do people like having polls here or not?
