Would you say an Intel processor is more reliable as a server
cpu than an AMD processor?

Will an Intel processor be worth paying a higher setup fee?

I'd appreciate some input on this matter from anyone with
experience, especially in regard to:

AMD Athlon XP 2100 (1.73 Ghz) as an alternative to Intel P3 (1.2 Ghz)
or Intel P4 (1.6Ghz)

Thanks in advance. :)

XP 2100 over 1.2 ghz, not sure about the XP vs p4 1.6 ... just now getting into XP's as servers so.. not quite sure about that. ;-)

I'd prefer a higher setup and lower monthly because you only pay that once.

we had an athlon 1900+ a while back and it was VERY NICE, we werent sure about gettin an AMD but it was very stable - dont have the box any longer because we changed to p4's and new control panel.

In my experience, Pentium III-based servers are most reliable. AMD are nice as well though.

our duron had been a great little trouper, but i tried some xp's and they didnt last the burn in. it could have been a specific config problem, but i felt personally that the duron performed better stability wise as it ran cooler, albeit doing less.
as for amd vs intel, and specifically.
xp vs p3 or p4, id take the intel, id also take the p3 over a p4. the new p3 tualatins are very shiny :) id like to see how the new p4 HT does in servers and also how the new amd series does. however if i had to buy today, p3 1.3 :)
