I just found out today that my register for an .it domain doesn't allow me to change the name servers to use the ones from my hosting (serverorigin) but I can change the single records: CNAME and MX, is it the same thing or I can't use the addon option?
If yes what data should I type?
What are disadvantages of not being able to use hosting's NS?

Not the same, you need to move your domain to a new registrar if you can.

Some companies that sell domain name you can't move until you are with them 3 to 6 months ... maybe if you wait they might change it when you request after that time. Not sure how long you have the domain ?

I don't know why they would not let you its really up to the companies u buy the domain from.
To me its not a bad thing.

They won't change them for me they said "we don't offer this service in our systems" what the hell?
I didn't know of course of this before buying, it's the first time this thing happened to me. I was always able to change the NS.
I can't switch register, I won't get a refund so I have to stick with it.
Do you know how to set the records? I have to use it as an addon domain in Cpanel

if you could be able to get a screenshot of the panel you have would be helpfull
I had the smae issue when I ghad a domain from a reseller of enom registrar
every time for changing the ip I should aske them to do so

You can use the freedns service at NameCheap.com (https://www.namecheap.com/freedns/free-manage-dns.aspx) if your domain registrar doesn't offer such service.

I don't get it, shouldn't I change name servers in the first place anyway?

Yes you will need to have the correct name servers set up in order for your web site to work correctly. Since your domain company does not offer a DNS service, I suggested it is possible to use a freedns service at NameCheap.
But now that your web host, ServerOrigin, has replied, I am sure they will help you with your DNS and domain issues.
