Woofcat 11-28-2002, 12:53 AM no Andrew 11-28-2002, 01:49 AM We offer neither. Everything about JSP just screams 'don't do this in a shared environment' to me. Maybe at some point... ASP? Nah...that belongs on Windows. UmBillyCord 11-28-2002, 03:05 AM Everything about JSP just screams 'don't do this in a shared environment' to me. We did after the 3.1.1 release of Ensim. Wish we never offered it. Unlike ASP, PHP, etc... JSP seems to have a unique issue every time. So we get one issue resolved, another unique issue opens. We have also found that JSP coders seem to be much more 'Brainy Smurf' then other language coders. At least in turns of proportion. Narrows done who in your tech department can handle those request. Also, we have to add a lot more RAM in every box. What ran great for months, now will at times run out of recources due to JSP. What I recommend on a box putting JSP on is a box with 4 GB RAM at least :) That should handle I believe at least 300 sites with JSP, no? -Brandon Eryxma Networks Support Finalz 11-28-2002, 06:33 AM how about chili asp? can it handle as well as windows does? okihost 11-28-2002, 06:43 AM eek.. yes JSP has become quite a resource hog.. had no clue what we were getting into when offering it.. 2Grumpy 11-28-2002, 11:25 AM Our stance is "Yes it's there, and we can enable it if you want, but we can not and will not support it" Brainy Smurf? I was thinking more along the lines of Cliff Clavin from Cheers. Jedito 11-28-2002, 04:23 PM Originally posted by HostInspect We had experiences just like yours. No, it doesnt support all the features of ASP 3.0 Wolfy 11-29-2002, 12:01 AM Where's the survey option for .NET? :dgrin: :flamethr: silversurfer 11-29-2002, 12:43 AM .NET is not a scripting language is it ? ;) silversurfer 11-29-2002, 12:48 AM I do not see Chilisoft going very far under Sun... I am sure their intent is to kill it before too many people start using it on non-windows platforms and threaten their Java initiative. So I don't see them developing Chilisoft ASP to the same level as MS. I could be wrong. Also my experience with JSP is... yes... it's too much of a resource hog. Unless you watch those monitors closely, you will likely cost other domains on the same system to suffer. Perhaps it is good to set aside machines purely for it. I guess it is ok to offer JSP as long as the cost is adjusted to reflect the higher cost of running the service. I am sure some developers wants something like that. I had many people asking me where they can get JSP hosting. (I used to work in a Java-only environment) dynamicnet 11-29-2002, 12:00 PM Greetings: Our parent company offers ASP support via ChiliSoft ASP on their Linux-based hosting plans. We've found JSP to be a resource hog; so that's not offered under shared hosting. Thank you. acewebserv 11-29-2002, 01:40 PM We offered the support for JSP until it start to kill the CPU. It took alot of resources for a Pentium 1.7GHz with 1GB DDR RAM. We only offer ASP support now. silversurfer 11-29-2002, 01:58 PM Perhaps in a VPS environment will be more suitable since he can't leech the resources of others. But it is going to run like a snail if the allocation is too little. vhedesigns 11-30-2002, 02:19 PM ASP but only on Windows boxes. As an ASP developer there are a lot of problems you can run into running ASP on ChilliSoft. The Laughing Cow 11-30-2002, 02:47 PM Agreed, ASP on Linux is simply a waste of time. Coders don't want to have to change the ways they work, they'll usually prefer to go on a Windows server. That said I believe we have some boxes running Chilisoft. |
