View Full Version : Question about renewing
redmeds 01-31-2010, 02:41 AM I have been monitoring a domain. It expired on 1-30-10, and now the expiration has changed to 7-30-10.
Can a domain be renewed for 6 months? or could it have been dropped and picked up by a domain drop catcher and some arbitrary date placed on it?
I don't think I have seen a 6 month renewal before.
seofusion 01-31-2010, 03:24 AM I don't think a domain can be renewed for 6 months. But I am totally not sure

It all depend's on the Registar sometimes they decide to hold it to give there client a chance to renew it...
Who's the registar? Possibly call them and ask them what's there policy..
Have you Back Orderd the domain? If not do it :-)
Last but not least whats the domain url so if i like it i can try also? Just Kidding
seofusion 01-31-2010, 04:33 AM I think Godaddy does something similar right! I just checked a domain which has expired and it says it is already registered?

No, they're renewed on a yearly or multiple-year basis. The domain indeed dropped and later got re-registered from what you described.

That is why it looks funny to me. It is under the same registrar, but the expiration changed to 6 months out, so I am guessing it expired, and will just need to wait out the process until it possibly made available.

:) Already have it backordered. I am not worried about competition grabbing, because quite honestly there is no value to most others, but at the same time I don't mind paying a few extra dollars to make sure I get it either, because there is value in it to me.
NotanAngel 01-31-2010, 06:24 PM what is the registrar? some prepay domains to let people get them from so called redemption (period of time when only registrant can renew domain, for a big fee though). if registrant doesn't renew, they release domain OR auction it (like Enom does).
this could have been the reason. but half a year - strange..
Posezion 01-31-2010, 08:31 PM I agree with #2, the minimum I've seen was 1 year.
What does crsnic.net say about the expiration date?
Ajith Alfred 02-12-2010, 03:58 PM Domains are renewed annually, try contacting the registrar regarding this.
redmeds 04-08-2010, 09:28 AM hmmmmm... sorry for the formatting of the text, but this is an example of what I was talking about. Expiration changed from 1-30 to 7-29.

tulaweb 04-09-2010, 11:12 AM I'm guessing it's in the redemption period, but from the outside all any of us can do is guess.

transformer 04-10-2010, 11:40 AM like everyone said domains are renewed on annually basis but sometimes domain registrar holds the domain for few months possibly.
