Hi guys,

I finished an E-Store a while back and now they are finally going to use it. They have requested i get them setup with SSL but i am not sure which company to go with. Theyd rather not have as much of a proccess to signup as they do with thawte, but it is important that they are trusted by there users. Right now im looking at s u r e s s l, your ideas?

Hows the issuing of geotrust though? Thawte was too rigorous.

I became a reseller oc comodo's instant SSL.
For me it is quite to publish ssl cert.
128 bit cert for $49.

i know that geotrust is easy

thawte is one of the most respected names in the business (but hey, then again, so is verisign /netsol  )

I am more old school I guess :D SSL certs has a lot to do about trust and recognition of the issuer, and the more reputable names will help a lot in that area, especially if the clients are not netizens who eat, breathe, sleep the internet. So I am used to using Thawte (bought over by Verisign) since that was an alternative before the buy out, just as good and cheaper. So I will still go with these people I would think if I buy another SSL cert. ;)

Well, for me it's the technology. It sickens me that Thawte can charge $199.95/yr for a string of characters. When people buy or do business over SSL, they just want to see the padlock and no errors. I have bought 6 Thawte certs in the past - never again, now the cheap providers are coming into the marketplace.

Great to see yet another monopoly broken. :)

Ya.. It became a monopoly when Verisign bought over Thawte. Thawte used to be a good alternative to Verisign (and cheaper). But you are probably right that there's some cheap alternatives coming up. But I am still leaning towards a more recognisable brand for those paranoid about security when they send private information to your site. But it is probably just me :D

Go with GeoTrust....Also, when Netsol took over thawte...Now they want $50.00/year in addition to a wildcard cert per sub-domain. We dumped Thawte when they started dictating that price and told them that is insane.

Geotrust has been a smooth ride and gets all our SSL request.

Yeah, we put in a GeoTrust and have had no problems or complaints. I suspect the people with browsers that don't trust these are getting used to the idea or have added the cert themselves.

Just a note -- our gracious host at WHT (Rackshack) has GeoTrust for $49 and sometimes on sale for less. We got our for -- I think $25 or $30 on sale. Great deal!
