I used to use Live Zilla on Windows, but now that I switched to Linux, I was wondering if anyone can recommend some Chat Clients that works on Linux? And it'd be great if it's free.

I personally never tried it but I've run plenty of other softwares with WINE. victor-t 01-27-2010, 08:00 PM Yeh, that's what I meant. And I heard that LiveZilla won't run with Wine for some reasons. njoker555 01-27-2010, 08:01 PM Both are free so you could give it a try, wouldn't hurt. Other than that, don't know any other livechat software that would work on linux. Maybe kayako? But I have even less exp with that. victor-t 01-27-2010, 08:03 PM http://www.livezilla.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=438&sid=d82fad6a6abf311e4471e4db2ae8a7c1, it won't run with Wine. :( BH-Greg 01-27-2010, 08:10 PM Look around for another software like wine. I personally think Wine really do suck. HostLeet 01-27-2010, 08:16 PM I believe kayako can, if I'm not mistaken. Can't hurt to ask them and make sure. :) http://www.kayako.com/solutions/liveresponse/ njoker555 01-27-2010, 08:17 PM http://www.livezilla.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=438&sid=d82fad6a6abf311e4471e4db2ae8a7c1, it won't run with Wine. :( Hopefully you can find a way around it then. I run fedora on a home server so I never did try it out. Look around for another software like wine. I personally think Wine really do suck. Wine has been good to me though :) victor-t 01-27-2010, 08:20 PM I believe kayako can, if I'm not mistaken. Can't hurt to ask them and make sure. :) http://www.kayako.com/solutions/liveresponse/ Yes and no - they have a forked open source project called PyLiveresponse (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pyliveresponse/) which supports their live chat and that's all. It's functional, albeit very bland. So you know that fancy Windows client? Yea not so much on this version :) teachforjune-Scott 01-27-2010, 11:10 PM Providesupport has a linux client, but it's not free. It's inexpensive, much more so than Kayako and the only real feature it's missing is historical data, but other than that, it's pretty good. For free, there's a web-based client called providechat.com. You can try them out. victor-t 01-27-2010, 11:26 PM Providesupport has a linux client, but it's not free. Thanks so much, ProvideChat.com seems alright. :) Surface 01-28-2010, 02:31 AM Providesupport has a linux client, but it's not free. Tanks for that link, I was thinking of adding live support to my company but was held back being that I'm on Linux. teachforjune-Scott 01-28-2010, 08:31 AM I'm on a mac, so livezilla is not available to me and as they are pretty much planning on sticking with Windows (even if they do come out with a web-based client, you will need windows to setup and install per Livezilla email), I'll never be able to use it. I do like providesupport (it's what we use). My only complaint is there is no historical data so that you can see if the visitor has been there before, where they surfed, etc. It will give you that info as long as they're on your site for that visit, but once they're gone, the stats are gone forever. I've been watching providechat for a while. They just came out of beta. It's barebones, but they keep adding features and I think it has potential. victor-t 01-28-2010, 08:50 AM I'm on a mac, so livezilla is not available to me and as they are pretty much planning on sticking with Windows (even if they do come out with a web-based client, you will need windows to setup and install per Livezilla email), I'll never be able to use it. Yea, I hope Live Zilla will be compatible with all OS soon. Provide Chat seems alright, but too little features. teachforjune-Scott 01-28-2010, 08:59 AM Per LiveZilla (wrote them an email regarding this), it will probably never be. They said it won't be for a couple of years that they MIGHT have a web-based client and even then they said it will require you to have Windows to setup and install. At this time we are highly focused on enhancing the existing clients (which takes all of our time) but even if we would come up with a web based client in 2010 (I am not sure about that), you would still need a Windows machine to setup and maintain your LiveZilla Server. I would love to come up with a solution for you but I can't (at least this time). I don't know why it requires a windows box to install and setup either. No other system that I've tried or used is tied so much to a particular platform. Especially if they have a web-based client, they usually have a web-based admin panel as well. keserhosting 01-28-2010, 09:07 AM Providechat.com seems to good alternative for Linux support. Disrelation 01-28-2010, 08:06 PM If I am not mistaken Kayako and AliveChat can run on Linux. victor-t 01-28-2010, 10:06 PM Thank you Eleven2. teachforjune-Scott 01-29-2010, 08:30 AM So does the free option comm100 (http://www.comm100.com/livechat/). They have a lot of features for a free hosted live chat service and it's entirely web-based, so works on any platform that has a browser. victor-t 01-29-2010, 08:39 AM So does the free option comm100 (http://www.comm100.com/livechat/). Thanks alot Scott, that looks alot like Provide Chat, but better. :agree: teachforjune-Scott 01-29-2010, 08:52 AM Yeah, it has more features, but is not as "attractive" or as modern (not ajax-powered), like providechat. Providechat has a lot of potential, but has a ways to go. I do like the fact that it has historical data, but it's still lacking in it's data that it collects. It would be nice to see the referring site and to see the location of the visitor. But it is a great option for free. victor-t 01-29-2010, 09:07 AM Yeah, it has more features, but is not as "attractive" or as modern (not ajax-powered), like providechat. But I am definitely using either Comm110 or Provide Chat until I find a better free solution. :) |
