My first post.

I've noticed tens, if not hundreds of the resellers have their servers at the same location. Who 'really' owns that datacenter?

I did a search on:

"is currently running BGP4 (border gateway routing protocol) to maintain the speed and uptime. If one backbone line goes down, it will balance the load to the other(s). If one line gets congested, it will load balance the traffic. "

and find nearly 100 web hosts/resellers located in Scranton, PA, all using the same description of their datacenter and many using the same pictures.

I'm trying to figure out how all this is connected (not necessarily a conspiracy theory....yet). I resell (new to this business) and use nocster (haven't been terribly impressed with thier customer service) and am considering moving to a different provider but want to figure out the connections.

Thanks.

Roger

They are known as Server Farms- huge capacity server centers with physical protection / security (in many of them just an authorised engineer and his team will be allowed inside only when required)

The enviorment, the building, the power source etc also will be well moderated to ensure there is no damage to the servers even if a hurricane hits it.

And no one SOB owns it. Some of them maybe owned by large corporations but in most of them anyone can own a server on a lease, rent or buy basis. It will be set up in the Server Farm and maintained on a contract basis by the managers and technicians.

Actually a website can be hosted from your system at home if you have the right software installed. For less than 5000 $ (one time cost) you can get a large capacity server installed at home and run your own hosting service or host a bunch of websites. But you have to ensure machine and power systems are ok most of the time- atleast 99% as most hosting companies boast about.

There are lots of host and companies in WHT who are from PA?
Any specific reason for PA.

Many servers are in PA, and many of those are probably in Scranton, PA, at Burst.net or Nocster (mine are there!).
