View Full Version : Does WHT have popups?
Rockerhard 11-27-2002, 01:14 AM Just wondering. I seem to get a lot of popups when I reload the forums. I could also have spyware on my computer that is causing the popups. To narrow it down, I just want to know if any of you experience popups while visiting WHT. Thanks.
homeiss 11-27-2002, 01:22 AM I don't think they have any pop ups, not that I have noticed anyways...
AceWeb 11-27-2002, 01:38 AM No Pop-ups at WHT - and I am glad :)

akashik 11-27-2002, 03:52 AM Download and install this:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ (Ad Aware)
That should make all your spyware problems go away

bobcares 11-27-2002, 07:03 AM Hi!
WHT has no pop ups. It could be thanks to your ISP... :)
Have a nice day :)
Regards
Amar
Rockerhard 11-27-2002, 09:32 AM Thanks all. Yea that is what I thought. Spyware strikes again!
Greg, I have had the Ad Aware program installed, but it isn't finding and removing this spyware. It is somewhere in my registry. It causes popups most often when I visit popular websites like Yahoo.com, foxnews.com, and other times at random times like right here at WHT. I just cannot find out where it is. I don't get pop ups every time, but it happens enough to really really aggravate me and slows down the webpage loading time while the popup is loading up. I think I need to start browsing with the crazy browser (http://www.crazybrowser.com) add on of internet explorer or opera that has the disable popup option. It's pretty bad when some software was forced and installed on my computer without my knowledge, and now it is dictating what browser I am going to have to use!
Darth 11-27-2002, 12:18 PM Well i've seen a few popups...

They've been from something/somewhere else. I've been here a couple/few years and during that time, not a single popup has been placed on the forum. Everyone hates them, including us :D

The only program that was running was msn... and the only window open was wht... ;)
richy 11-27-2002, 03:18 PM possibly time delayed from an earlier page or you have spyware, wht doesnt have popups and ive never ever seen one while browsing.
MDJ2000 11-27-2002, 03:44 PM Likewise, I've never seen a pop-up here and I even lurked around for 6+ months before I registered. How do I know for sure? I'm still here. I refuse to patronize sites that annoy the piss out of me.
Axel Teflon 11-27-2002, 03:51 PM I've caught a few pop ups aswell...
Never seen a popup from WHT...
Chicken 11-27-2002, 05:18 PM ...because there's never been any. If you got one, you got it from somewhere else.
Chachi 11-27-2002, 05:23 PM I'll take this moment to plug a new browser I'm using. It's based on Mozilla, so all you IE fanatics should be warned in advanced to stay clear, unless of course you feel like being converted. The browser is extremely streamlined, it's neither bulky nor skimmed on the feature front. It's currently in version 0.4, by the time they release 1.0, it's going to be one hell of a browser...
oh the reason why I'm recommending it, is because of it's built-in popup ad blocker.

The Dude 11-27-2002, 08:51 PM Are you sure your not seeing the messenger spam?????????
The Dude :)
Rockerhard 11-27-2002, 10:05 PM Nah, what I am seeing is this pop-up url that appears to have an affiliate code in it. Note: Doesn't mean it's the affiliate that is guilty.

BIGTIME! It's on my damn computer somewhere. Since I switched today to the crazy browser IE plug-in, I haven't seen it since. But I still need to get it off my system. Also, notice about that webpage (The root html page) the obvious "Report Spam Here" link. Usually a sign of being guilty but trying to cover it up by acting to be concerned about spam. Either that or they do have a very big problem with spam.
