View Full Version : PHPLive = $ Waste | Better Options
Like many companies we wanted to add chat support on our site. So after browsing a few of the options we decided on PHPLive.
Minus a few small bugs like traffic monitor not refreshing automatically and users not being able to see operator chat once in a while, the software was just okay. Not great, not to bad.
Recently we noticed our chat online and offline icons disappeared and thought it was a error on our end. Oddly enough the icons didn’t move, weren’t renamed, and the setup still showed the icon preview.
Turns out we are not the only ones having this problem and the "support" has oddly enough skipped over all the threads relating to this matter.
I have e-mailed their "support" department and got no response. It also seems their telephone number is not in service.
I would suggest avoiding this software at all costs, I am sure some of the other companies have a better product and better support.
(If any of those companies read this post and want to offer us a discount we will gladly switch ;p)
Hope this helps some of you in your support chat software decision.
Zach
Zach,
Can you clarify what product you are referring to? PHP Live Support, PHP Live Chat, or PHP Live Helper... ?
Sorry =)

PHP Live Helper
Good program cheap price.
UH-Matt 11-27-2002, 07:18 AM url and cost ?
or am i being lazy ? :D
Odd Fact 11-27-2002, 11:52 AM I recently got Chattist and it seems to work fine. They are running a special in this thread Chattist Special (http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=90942&highlight=chattist).
I been playing with it for about two weeks. I plan to add it to my site when I have enough staff to properly cover a live help schedule.
You can also sign up for a demo.
PHP Live Helper: http://www.turnkeywebtools.com
$99 (was $79 not long ago) free updates for a year, yours to own, yearly renew at $99 again? It's pretty nice.
Chattist:
Windows-only executable for admin/staff client, next!
WebUMake Instant Helper:
http://www.webumake.com/wih/index.htm
$99, free updates for a year, yours to own, each additional year only 10% ($10) of the original price. I really like their upgrade pricing, though some may view it written in Perl as a downside.
Hope that helps.
azuretek 11-27-2002, 06:44 PM I currently use http://www.clickchatsold.com
it has a program to download and runs in the tray, I like that but some people may not :)
I guess its just all preference... they are cheap too! only 20 dollars a month
Jburnley 11-27-2002, 07:12 PM Powertalk is even cheaper than PHP live. Check it out at http://www.powertalk.com!
KDAWebServices 11-27-2002, 07:26 PM We use PHP Live Support, have done since it first came out and never had a problem with it.
Techark 11-27-2002, 07:32 PM I used power talk for a month and it was terrible not going there again if I cannot host it on my servers I do not want it .
Nothing makes me madder than to be in the middle of talking to a customer only to have someone elses server go down and it stop working.
Kulman 11-28-2002, 01:03 PM The only thing that I dislike about PHPLiveSupport is that it's a bit heavy on resources. Other than that its a fine piece of software.
Wait till your ICONS disappear for no reason. ;)
Zach
KDAWebServices 11-28-2002, 02:50 PM Are you saying the PHP Live Support will delete the icons? Or just not show them?
Its just not showing the icons. Go to our site and you will see. :)
I thought upgrading phplivesupport would fix the problem but it didnt.
In the setup the icons STILL show the preview and are setup.
If you look at the osicodes forums quite a few people are having the same problem and support doesnt reply back to those threads.

duracell_man 11-28-2002, 03:32 PM I personally use Click Chat Sold.
www.clickchatsold.com (http://www.clickchatsold.com)
It is reasonably priced. Stable, easy to use and implement.
I love it. :)

cheCCa 01-27-2003, 02:42 PM Anyone knows..as they don't specifically say on their site.
phplivesupport.com
when you buy their source code ($159) do you own it 100% or after 1 year, you have to pay again?
Thanks.
phantasywork 01-27-2003, 03:53 PM We use PHP Live Helper: http://www.turnkeywebtools.com , got it when it was 79.00 before it went up too 99.00 I can't find too many things to complain about it .
We just couldn't see wrapping up a few hundred dollars in other Live chat's that were on the market.

No, you are basically leasing it (at $159) per year. If you want to own it you have to buy an Owned License @ $399.95

eyckzo 01-28-2003, 04:18 AM If your icons disappeard there is a reason for it. And the reason is ...
Warning: Access denied for user: 'icuserv_phplive@localhost' (Using password: YES) in /home/icuserv/public_html/phplive/API/sql.php on line 25
Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Access denied for user: 'icuserv_phplive@localhost' (Using password: YES) in /home/icuserv/public_html/phplive/API/sql.php on line 25
It does not have access to your MySQL Database. That is YOUR Fault NOT PHP Live's.
kolanos 01-28-2003, 06:41 AM We've been working with PHPLive for about 2 months now and haven't had any signifigant problems (some minor tweaks here and there) and it seems to work just fine. The only complaint we have are the frequent message alert window/buttons that popup to confirm just about every action and event, that gets a little annoying. That aside we believe PHPLive is a great product and look forward to future versions and improvements.
TomGordon 01-28-2003, 09:53 PM We've been following PHPLive Support for quite some time and been using it for quite some time. It's the BEST! We've looked, tried and did the demo of a lot of compeditors. PHPLive wins hands down!
If your icons not show, then chances are it's something with your system. I don't want to harp on you and say you did wrong thing, but I have to defend for PHPLive Support if someone says bad thing about them. PHPLive Support is a fine piece of Software and they've gone a long way and each release is superb! Sorry to hear it's not working for you, but it's working for us and we LOVE it! :o
