I have decided to use RoundCube webmail since it looks like the best free option out there but when I tested it and sent a message to a hotmail address it went straight into the spam folder. Why does the RoundCube mail get put straight into spam? Is this an issue with the host ip address or??

Hi
It is not a problem with the roundcube, the issue is with your host ip address. Check if your ip address is black listed in sites like spamhaus.

I've just checked the IP address and not it's not listed. Could this also be affected by the actual name of the domain name?

its definitely has nothing to do with round cube, its either your Ip address blacklisted as pointed above or your domain name is also a possibility

Well the domain name is actually new and it has never been registered before so the only reason I pointed out the domain was because of the name of the domain which is adult related. Could it be the contents of the email too? As I have put some random text and message as "test" just to see if everything works fine. Could it be that too?

Is the problem only with roundcube or you are experiencing the same problem with other e-mail clients also? Try selecting the mail and click on "Not Spam". Try sending a test mail after you have certified the e-mail as not spam.

Yes, that's possible. Some anti spam softwares have "learning" capability to identify spam. Once you mark yor message as "Not spam", in theory it won't mark any messages with similar content as spam later on.

I've done this and every email I have sent from now on goes into the inbox. But what if I send an email to a different hotmail address, will the same thing happen? Will it first go into the spam box?

some times hotmail addresses are marked as spam by antispam software, you can add hotmail into white list into your antispam soft....and when all emails shouldn't be marked as spam
