IF YOU NEED 50% UPTIME GO FOR THEM OTHERWISE DON'T GO NEAR THEM.

I have signed for one of their special offer HERE (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=90084&highlight=%40webhost) and my box has been down every day. Very bad experience and I will be contacting my bank for chargeback.

Did you overload your server with any kind of high resource application? maybe that was the problem

The server was going down every 5 minutes when they sent me the login info. and reported that to them but was asked if I installed any software which I did not other than update the OS from Microsoft.

The server dose not have any website

I also signed up for the special. The server was down for a few hours yesterday. All I was told was that it was an issue with the server, not with the network. They never said what actually caused it to go down. Today my server has been unreachable for quite some time. Only service that still seems to be (semi-)working is SSH, but it keeps rejecting my password (no, I didn't do anything to the server in the last 24 hours, so it's no software gone crazy). I submitted a high priority ticket 4 hours ago and am still waiting for a response. Looks like linux may somehow be fried. I find 4 hours for a company that advertises it's servers as semi-managed unacceptable. At this point it looks like they'll have another free server to add to their stock at the end of the day :bawling:

P.S. Am I overloading the server? I don't think one single static site that has only been on the server since yesterday that receives about 1 GIG worth of traffic a month can overload the server, do you?

I've got a 1.3 Celeron server @webhost, and I'm really happy about the speed and uptime..

The support is excellent! I've bombed them with alot questions through email and msn messenger, and they helped me like a good teacher!

The only problem I've had with is the ticket system, which works now :)

I have been with atwebhost since Sept. First with a semi-ded plan and now with a dedicated server. So far we are happy with it and we have have not experienced any downtime.

I can't speak for their semi-ded (do they even still have them ?) because I had problems on that too but with my ded server there I have virtually no problems. There's only been about 9 minutes of downtime all month, if that.

I had a major problem with a server with them.....one with a DSM control panel...I had nothing but problems.....they did offer me one with CP....but I declined...and was told that I would get a full refund......I haven't as of yet....but that was within a trouble support ticket for the DSM.

That was a week ago....I haven't heard a thing and the ticket has been closed.

ALS,

I am not sure how fast your bank where your credit card processes refunds or chargebacks. Over here, it usually takes between 8 to 12 weeks before I get my money back. That's basically my experience with VISA and Mastercard. They usually said to expect it within 2 billing cycles.

For Amex, they seems to be relatively faster, I usually see the refund back within 4 weeks.

For some reason, banks usually deduct from your account relatively fast when the charge is put in but takes a while before you see the refund.

Hope that helps.

Edwin

Thanx eddy2099 .... well I got my statement for the past month last week(I haven't had time to post or view here since)and no credit on there from Atwebhost yet.

I'll wait until next month(two weeks into the month for the statement)and if no credit is there yet from Atwebhost I'll get my bank to do the charge back.

Sorry they couldn't clear up this simple matter....without a problem.

I'm not bashing them(as I was told by someone at Atwebhost after posting here in a PM)not at all. They were really helpful in answering presales questions to setup its just their server didn't work out with me(I'm not getting into it ...its not the place).

Good luck Atwebhost.......

Are they ever going to fix the latency problem?

I was told it mainly effect AOL & RR ISP, well thats not true. The @web site loads so slow for the past four days, plus I have checked the host sites from this thread and they are all very slow loading.

Just wondering.

This recent Cogent with AOL peering issue has totally changed our view point towards Cogent, on Monday our network will be switching over to premium Expedient bandwidth and Cogent will be totally removed.

I would like to remain objective here, but it seems like everyone is placing blame on Cogent for more domestic issues, should I say. We have been using Cogent for quite some time with absoutely no issues whatsoever. I would reccomend Cogent over Verio and Level(3). Basically, there two reasons why people hate Cogent:

1) The person/company whom casts the ill shadow is simply jealous and/or frustrated that Cogent is offering low prices making it hard for that company to compete with Cogent-based providers.

2) "Stuff" happens and its easier to blame your bum rapped uplink than it is to accept responsibility.

So who's fault is it then for causing 3000ms ping increases when merging into ADTN? AOL because they were essentially offering something that costs $ for free?

I was quite the avid supporter of Cogent, and a fan of their product, but their management skills and legal team need to take a polish through a meat grinder IMHO.

Cogent didn't maintain their QOS well enough. Before this peering issue poped up Cogent's speed was pretty good but now it's just plain apalling. They really need to revamp their management and they need to get rid of the spammers on their network before more providers start dropping peering agreements with them.

In detroit area if your using earthlink DSL , forget it. It is nearly impossible to hit sites on cogent.

Add BellSouth DSL to the list. I tried running a machine with game servers on a Cogent line and the server was located only 20 miles from my home. My trace route often showed pings in excess of 7000ms

ouch. that's bloody unacceptable for gaming :D
did the route went to china and back, or where do these ping times come from?

Xenos
12-26-2002, 12:42 PM
Most of the time the severe latency occured at netrail which is also located in Atlanta. The route never even left the Atlanta area  With a ping like that you would think it was going to Mars and back :D

I live in Atlanta, and I just got rid of Earthlink's Dial up service, even then I received fast connection to my server hosted by AtWebHost. And now that I have Alltel nothing has seemed to change.

The only problem is that my customers are having difficulty accessing their web sites due to the several promised changes in switching bandwidth providers from AtWebHost.
