Samuel 11-26-2002, 02:33 PM Another one http://www.zapmeta.com progex 11-26-2002, 05:47 PM Another one http://www.zapmeta.com Just another metasearch engine to add to the pile... ;) About Kartoo... I think it's a great and innovative idea, but executed in a poorly-designed graphic interface and not many people are ready to revert to a Flash-based environment. Do you think this will be the future of search engines? JayC 11-26-2002, 07:13 PM Originally posted by progex Do you think this will be the future of search engines? Nope. I think most users are very much satisfied with the "traditional" approach to displaying search results. On the other hand, once you have it figured out and as long as you have the horsepower to make it run quickly and smoothly (I'm on a cable connection with a 2.54 gHz machine with 512 megs of DDR RAM, and the Flash interface at Kartoo loads quickly and responds instantly) you really can find good results with it. Still, it seems like more a curiosity and a toy than a serious search tool to me -- although somewhat helpful for SEO-related brainstorming. beowulfdk 11-26-2002, 08:09 PM Quite cool, somewhat ugly design, unique. Usefull ? Not really Oh and also it sucks coz I cant find my own site. The results just seem strange to me, I mean link popularity certainly dont mean the same thing here as in google. Kinda funnny search for divx and it doesnt even find divx.com. Oh adn search for yahoo it finds some different yahoos, but NOT www.yahoo.com :) Synthetic 11-26-2002, 08:40 PM Interesting, but definately not what I'd use to find information. Jtru 11-26-2002, 08:43 PM I've seen Kartoo before and while it's maybe a little more visually appealing, I don't use it for any serious searches. In fact, I don't really use it at all.. tagalaxy.net 11-26-2002, 09:02 PM Kartoo has a html (non-flash) version too, http://www.kartoo.com/en/kartoo.html I still wouldnt use it personally though ;) mind21_98 11-26-2002, 11:04 PM Google's still the finest searching has to offer. :) shaunewing 11-26-2002, 11:18 PM It's a heap of crap. I searched for myself; I got a load of racing sites. I searched for some other topics; I got a heap of racing sites. Other miscellaneous searches returned rubbish. I don't want to wait for an ugly looking flash interface to load so I can perform a quick search. It's slow enough on my 512k ADSL connection with a PIII 1.1ghz & 256mb ram; I'd hate to see what it's like on a slower machine with dialup. As for Google, it's virtually instant. I think I'll stick with that as I have for the past few years. --Shaun |
