View Full Version : Looking for Windows reseller

Greetings,

I've searched through the offers and tried my best to find current info on Windows resellers here, but if possible I'd like to hear from anyone who has recent experience with hosts in my short list. I'm mostly looking for hosting for my own .Net development projects, but will host websites for clients too. I'm not looking to become a web hosting company right now, but would like a host that can accomodate me if I decide to go that route later on.

Here's what I'd like to have, but obviously I'll be flexible if I find the right host:

- Top-notch support. I need someone who knows what they're doing and can get problems resolved quickly.
- 10+gb storage
- 100+gb bandwidth
- 40+ accounts (separate logins)
- Multiple domains per account (if possible)
- MS Sql db (2005 or 2008) would like to have 1 for each account, but I understand that's not always feasible, at least a reasonable offering will do, with the ability to add more db's without it costing a fortune.
- MySql - not a deal breaker, but would be nice to have as an option
- MS Access databases - with or without DSN capability
- Classic Asp, Asp.Net (minimum 2.0 through current)
- Would strongly prefer DotNetPanel but would accept plesk if I had to, do not want helm or hsphere
- Smartermail - would like to have at least 50 email addresses per account
- My own name servers
- Easy upgrade path to increase resources later on
- Would like to have the typical classic asp and .net components available on the server (uploads, pop3, smtp, etc)
- Some of the more popular 1-click add-ons would be nice to have, but these aren't a deal breaker either.
- And finally, I'd like to have all of this for $25 or less per month.

Here's the short-list of hosts that look appealing to me:

resellerchoice.com - I really like the way these guys look but their offerings/pricing don't seem to be a great match for me.

premiumreseller.com - These guys look good (almost too good) but I can't seem to find any recent reviews of them, would really like to hear from people who are with them now, especially long-term customers.

softsyshosting.com - This one is workable for me, at $22.50 per month but their minimum subscription is 3 months. I'm not willing to sign up with any web host for anything but month-to-month terms.

I think that just about covers it all. Let me know if I left out any details.

If you have current/recent experience with other Windows hosts I'd love to hear about them.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

May want to add reliablesite to your list. I'm not sure if they'll necessarily fit your budget. I don't have experience with their reseller offerings, but I've worked with a lot of other options they have.

Did you take a look at the reseller offers?

Thanks for the reply. Interesting that you mention them, I was just looking at their site. Their base package seems to be a little odd in the offerings, but then it starts at $8 per month, and adding on what I need seems to land it just about where I want to be price-wise. reliablesite.net looks worth looking into as well so if anyone has any current/recent experience with their reseller service please let me know what you think.

Your requirements are very do-able. $25 month will likely get you a good basic reseller plan. Smartermail is a good choice of Email system, when using the enterprise version too, you have some amazing features.

Reseller Hosting is a good choice for $25 month, you could probably get some VPS providers out there who could offer a VPS at this rate, but personally I wouldn't recommend this unless you can get a smartermail license, SQL etc, costing allot more in the long run.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I ended up going with resellerchoice.com.
I've always liked the way they look and I've always seen favorable comments about them.
So far I'm very happy with their service. Servers are fast, email works great,
tech support is really responsive and helpful.

The only downside I can see with this host that their storage/bandwidth offerings are on the lean side.
Upgrades are available, but are a tad expensive for what you get (relatively speaking of course).

The only reason it's an issue is that right out of the gate I have a couple clients who want to publish audio & video
files on their sites, so it's potentially going to chew up all my storage space right away.

I was thinking about getting a secondary cheaper hosting account with another host that offers ample space and bw,
with lots of ftp logins included. That way I could give each of my customers their own ftp logon to the secondary host,
and have them segregate their website files and media files, and link their website pages to the files on the second host.

I know that would be a small pain for my customers, to have a separate ftp login just for their media files, but it would
allow me to stay with this host and still provide the needed resources to my customers.

Any thoughts?

It's nice that you guys are posting such detailed, compelling arguments in favor of your favorite host, but my question was whether or not anyone had any thoughts on the idea I posted.

Get a cheap cpanel reseller if all you need is files hosting (make sure you check TOS regarding media files hosting).
IMO the idea of hosting files separately is too much work.
If i look for hosting, i won't buy unless you can offer seamless integration.
There are many choices with lots of disk space and bandwidth in the market.

Personally I think your budget is too low and you are heading for disappointment.

I think Arvixe has reseller hosting plans that meets your needs.
50 GB Disk Space
500 GB Data Transfer
host Unlimited Websites
DotNetPanel Control Panel
Unlimited FTP Accounts
Unlimited MSSQL 2008 Databases
Private Name Servers

But their month to month price($30/mo) is above your budget. If you use the following Arvixe Coupon (http://www.findbestwebhosting.com/HostingCoupons.aspx/Arvixe/416), you will get 20% off.

I have to admint the Arvixe offering looks like a good deal. I thought they had only offered a windows shared hosting plan though. How long have they offered the windows reseller plan?

You can check the plans from hostnexus[dot]com. They offer pretty good and superb support.

HI

Try asking them, if they are a reseller themselves they may not have the ability to resell sub-reseller hosting, I can only assume this is the reason why.
