this was originally posted in alt.internet.providers.uk and alt.www.webmaster, and the good people there recommended i post here too.

i'm looking for recommendations for a cheap, reliable, and reasonably
well-featured web-host.

i was interested in bargainhosts.co.uk, but i then read bad things about
them on some newsgroups and decided to give them a miss. can you recommend any
decent alternatives?

the features i'm looking for are:

- php
- mysql (preferably 2+ databases, although could manage with 1)
- linux/apache based (preferably, although i might make do with windows...
maybe)
- at least 3 subdomains, in addition to the main domain
+ either www.domain.com/subdomain1 or subdomain1.domain.com format would
be acceptable
- per-subdomain ftp access - i.e. different ftp accounts for each subdomain
- ~80mb+ webspace (50 absolute minimum)
- some pop3 email addresses would be nice - at least 1 per subdomain,
preferably more
- included domain name registration (not essential)
- uk based (preferably, but not essential)

budget:

- roughly £35 per year, although that's not absolutely set in stone

At one time I might have recommended FeaturePrice.com. But for the last 7 months they have seriously deteriorated for us and we have not received any responses to our contacts with them (email and snail mail).

A lot of my friends have had problems with featureprice.com especially contacting them :(
