View Full Version : Windows Reseller Recommendations
nailer 01-12-2010, 01:46 AM I am looking for Windows Reseller Hosting packages.
That have the following.
Smartermail Enterprise 6x or 5x with plans to upgrade to 6x
Domain level spam filtering
At least 10 domains
Ip Blacklisting or Deny Manager
Branding
25/mo.
My primary concern is email and spam filtering. Bandwidth and disk space is not much of a factor, for most of my accounts web usage is nothing more than a web brochure. A solid email client with outlook integration is most important.
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Hi, how many email accounts will you be making?
regards Terry
Softsys Hosting 01-12-2010, 07:55 AM Do you have preference for location? I believe most of the hosts would have already moved to SM 6 since it has been out since quite a while now.

You would have thought so but this is not accurate.
I can give you two recommendations from first hand experience.
Reseller Choice
SoftSys Hosting
RC used SM6 Ent and SoftSys uses SM6 Pro at the time I used them. Do you really need Enterprise? If so then I suggest RC. If not and Pro will do then I will recommend either.
RC uses an external add-on spam filter gateway which was/is X-Wall and SS uses the built in functions of SM6 which work well at no additional cost.
Support and response from both companies is top notch, there is no way I could say one was better than the other as they are equally responsive and could not be any quicker or more accurate in resolutions to any problems that may occur.
I would recommend you open a sales ticket with one or both of these companies and explain your exact needs before making a decision. Make sure you and they know how large your email storage needs are as email is counted against the plan storage limit.
*I am not with either company at this time as I have moved back to dedicated but I can produce evidence for a moderator if necessary.
nailer 01-12-2010, 11:06 AM Thanks for the suggestions. I would like Enterprise, its my understanding that enterprise supports OTA sync with smart phones, Blackberry more specific.
As for the number of email accounts, 100 or so will do for now. And PCTechMe is correct; at this point very few have upgraded to v.6, and the host running v.5 seem to have some reservation about upgrading, why? I don't know.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't upgrade. One of the reason might be the change in licensing model by SmarterTools which has increased price per year.
PCTechMe 01-12-2010, 12:26 PM You will need Enterprise for OTA sync but whomever you choose do make sure they will enable it for you as it will probably not be enabled for everyone by default. If you will be wanting to use ActiveSync that will come at an additional cost per mailbox and very few hosts are currently supporting it at this time. RC is looking into offering but I do not know at what price. At least 5USD per mailbox I would assume.

I agree SM activesync addon is very expesive.
If the feature is required, i would say it's better to get exchange mailbox.

Probably True, but we use ActiveSync with our SM6 enterprise, I prefer SM6 Enterprise to exchange as I like the Commtouch Antispam & Anti-virus addons we purchased for smartertools, when we used exchange we found that the antispams were not very good.
