Is this considered spam?

If company X is running a promotion and wants to find all of the baseball teams on the internet to email, can they search a search-engine, look up the WHOIS and then email or mail all of the companies after they've gathered the information about the promotion or to lead them into their program?

But how does this differ than just walking into a store (obviously offline) and selling your product to the manager/owner?

You're only allowed to use WHOIS information to contact the hostmaster regarding the domain name, or at least not use it for unsolicited purposes.

How about going to a website and looking up the sales/biz dev/webmaster then emailing them for your product/service?

Personally I'd consider it spam if I got it. I could just as easily found your company on the Internet and contacted you instead.

There's got to be a legit way to do this...

Usually when you think "there must be a legal way", then there probably is, just not a moral way.

Well with that logic, why wouldn't everyone just think alike and do that for each and every product that they want to share - SELL?

I understand your thoughts, but it is SPAM.

Probably what these ******** think also (not that you're an *******, but they are!):

Yep. OPT-IN is NOT spam, but whether you use a script/program to automatically collect email adresse from the web or you grab them manually from potentially client websites - that is NOT OPT-IN! They did not REQUEST / ALLOW you to email them business offers/ads.

Yeah, I didn't realize how bad it really was until I purchased, some type of email spyder that worked like a charm to pull email addresses. As I collected and collected, it came to my attention that it was just that >>> :spam: <<<<!

Needless to say, I didn't send anything and also DID NOT GET MY $$$$$$$$$$ back from the retailer. So for many reasons, :spam: has left a bad taste in my mouth! FIGHT IT!!!
