View Full Version : Can't remove IP from WHM - can anybody help?
I added an IP to WHM and now I need to remove it, but I can't. It is assigned to a nameserver for a reseller account each time I click 'Assign an IP Address'. - I removed it from the IP pool and it is not listed anywhere anymore. But it continues to be assigned to nameservers by WHM. Does anybody know off this problem? How can I remove it when it isn't listed there anymore?
Thanks
John
tazzy 11-25-2002, 09:15 PM Hello,
First questions is which version of CPanel are you using?
Hello :) - I'm using WHM 5.3.0 / Cpanel 5.3.0-R29

Aussie Bob 11-25-2002, 10:03 PM Don't press the 'Assign an IP Address' button. Choose the IP for the main domain [same for ns1 nameserver] and then give your client the other IP for the ns2 nameserver. Make sure to keep this IP ticked [reserved] in the "Edit Reserved Ips" section.
Make sure your client knows how to register the personalised nameservers before they can use them with their domains etc..
Also make sure you add the 2 A Records to their DNS Zones with the ns1 and ns2 and first and second IPs...
Don't press the 'Assign an IP Address' button. Choose the IP for the main domain [same for ns1 nameserver] and then give your client the other IP for the ns2 nameserver. Make sure to keep this IP ticked [reserved] in the "Edit Reserved Ips" section.
Yes, but what is confusing me is that no set of nameservers are shown under 'Manage Assigned Nameserver Ips' unless I click this 'Assign an IP Address' button. How could I be sure that the system is configured to use those two IPs you mentions, as nameservers when they aren't listed there?

StevenG 11-25-2002, 10:21 PM All you need is the ns1 + ns2 + A records with the IP's in the dns zone as Bob said.. it'll work honest :)
Make sure to keep this IP ticked [reserved] in the "Edit Reserved Ips" section
Shouldn't all IPs that have been assigned to nameservers be ticked. So when it has happened both should be kept ticket?
John
StevenG 11-25-2002, 10:24 PM You can actually use the name server IP's for other sites too.. just most don't set it up that way for private labelling and all that :D
You don't need to click the reserve IP address at all.. as long as you remember what IP's you have used... btw you can use 1 IP for all primary name servers (ns1) and another IP for all secondary name servers (ns2) .. it matters not.. all name servers can be assigned to the same IP.. but thats a different issue :)
Aussie Bob 11-26-2002, 12:01 AM If I had several hours, I'd build a walk-through from start to finish of setting up a new WHM account with screenshots etc....:(
Aussie Bob 11-26-2002, 12:03 AM Let me see what I can do......

Yeah, but we're looking to the root cause of the problem. :D
Aussie Bob 11-26-2002, 03:24 AM Ok John. :D I've sent you a PM with the url for the walk-through. I can't post it here. Good luck. ;)
Thanks alot for doing all that Rob! :) - You should be cloned and hired by all hosting companies in the world :D.

No worries at all. I hope it helps you out. :smokin:

:D - your procedure works perfect Rob - the nameservers are added with the correct IPs, but I get this message when I afterwards try to create a test account with the reseller account:
You do not have access to create that package (0)!
I have double checked that the same checkboxes are marked for this account (edit reseller privileges) as for another IP based account that works without this problem (it were created before this problem started).
Also the test IP I couldn't remove isn't shown in the list when I access my server via SSH:
pico /etc/ipaddrpool
pico /etc/ips
so it seems to have been removed from the server, but it is still listed in WHM when I choose 'Manage Assigned Nameserver IPs':
Updating records for ip 64.241.79.150..... Done
This is starting driving me . I wonder if we have to completely remove whm/cpanel and reinstall it to fix this problem. I have waited for a response from cpanel.net to this problem since yesterday.

Have you created a Package in the "Add a New Package" ?
Have you created a Package in the "Add a New Package" ?
No, I haven't - I supposed that it weren't recommended making packages available to resellers because they could see/edit each others packages and mess something up etc.
But do you mean create packages in my own server WHM version?

I just contacted you on ICQ. I'm really stuck with this. Now I'm waiting for a response from cpanel.net.

.
.

I did create a package but I forgot the rights (where is the embarrased smiley?) -
So after having done that the resellers account can now create accounts - but only by choosing the pre-designed packages. - That was not my intention.
Rob, how do you manage to get your clients create their own accounts? My clients are having hundreds of different needs so they should be able to create accounts without being forced into the framework of a pre-designed package. I still have a reseller packages at another host and when I create an account with their reseller WHM version I don't need to choose anything from the package drop-down menu.
I just heard that packages resellers create/edit in their WHM version isn't shown to other resellers - they only see their own packages. Is that right? - if so, then it wouldn't be a problem using packages, and that would be great.
Thanks
John
I finally figured it out (I belive so) - the package thing. So resellers have to create packages before they can give accounts to their clients? And their packages are not shown in other resellers drop down menues. This package feature is not activated in the (reseller) version of WHM I use at my current host - WHM 5.2 - the version on my ded. server is 5.3, so this must be a new feature.
Thanks everyone for helping this "little baby" on his first steps ;) :stickout: :D to learning these things. - Why am I so slow learning thing nowadays  - It's probably because I've learned so much during the years, that there are not much room for more in there. ;) :buck: :smash:
