Well I thought I understood but I must be mistaken, I am moving to an RAQ4 from an E-Smith server - all My mail was working normally till I added the RAQ and moved the accounts over.
When ever mail is sent it sends a return mail message that there is a system config error, I have gone through several different configurations on step at a time but am still betting my head. Does anyone have any Ideas, the message is as follows,
----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- <das@.com>
(reason: system config error)
<slm@mydomain.com>
(reason: system config error)

----- Transcript of session follows -----
553 5.3.5 mydomain.com. config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?) 554 5.3.5 <das@mydomain.com>,<slm@mydomain.com>... Local configuration error

You probably did not put 'mydomain.com' in the mail server alias field for the 'mydomain.com' virtual site.

Right, yourdomainhere.com must be entered in the mail server alias field for that VH. Also, and this is an aspect where Cobalt can be very tricky, - should work smoothly but we had a couple of bad surprises with email management on Cobalt :
In that case you can probably solve this by going to Control Panel -> Services - > Email Server parameters; in Host/Domain Aliases make sure you have www.yourdomainhere.com in that list.
Make SURE it appears there after being saved, because I had to do that not later than a few hours ago, and I had to do that about 3 times before the changes were taken into account and the domain added in the email server list.
Should work fine once this is there.

Well I went in and you were correct, added mydomain.com but it would not allow www.mydomain.com. Now the mail program "outlook" says the SMPT server is timing out and nothing is sent. :confused:

Information only for any that have a problem wwiht this set up - the Cobalt DNS HOW - TO (RaQ3 and RaQ4) on pkgmaster.com was also very helpful in understanding. The only thing that I saw that was left out there was the SOA record and I left it self configure and all went well.
Thanks to all for the help...................:beer:

Don't need to put www.domain.com in the alias field. It is pre-wired to accept mail for user@www.domain.com (actually user@host.domain.com) by default. The alias field is just for other combinations after the '@'...

Once I received this the same error, and found the error to be a typo: I entered

domainname,com <-- comma instead of a period
