View Full Version : PerlBill vs. phpManager .... your opinions
crypticways 11-25-2002, 04:39 PM Before I layout my hard earned cash, I'd like some opinions of the following two pieces of software, if you know of any better pieces please share your thoughts.
PerlBill vs. phpManager
1. I have my own merchant acct
2. I use Cpanel / WHM
What do you prefer and why?
Neo3Net 11-25-2002, 05:14 PM Perl Bill is much much better then PHP Manager. Go with PerlBill.
Lesli 11-25-2002, 07:26 PM It all depends on what your needs are, and how comfortable you are working with either.
When I looked at both, I didn't like that the phpManager demo used frames. The customisation options didn't seem all that hot, either: choose from themes? Thanks, but no; I want to customise it to match my site's look and feel. Perlbill allows that.
I like that Perlbill allows you to add plans, one-time services, whatever. I also have been talking with the developer, John, and a new version of Perlbill is due in a week or so (along with user forums - I would very much like that.)
I did like that phpManager offered a free short-time trial version; but after trying it out, I found that I still preferred Perlbill - which was very similar to Perldesk, which I had used. It all depends on how you work, what you need, et cetera. Perlbill integrates with WorldPay, Authorize.net, 2checkout, Paysystems, Paypal, et cetera. A "pro" version, which can handle credit card transactions, is in development.
...and no, I don't work for Perlbill / JBServe ;->
SoftWareRevue 11-26-2002, 12:23 AM A new version of phpManager is due soon as well. It looks like it will be sweet.
I haven't used either but I've been thinking about purchasing PHPManager because a lot of people on the board seem to be enjoying it and it's price is amazingly low!

Yes, you can customise the templates as you see fit (as well as the source code) to match your website.

Hello,
I realize this is a little unrelated to the start of the thread. But I felt it was important enough since we are all talking about PerlBill in this forum.
I have good news. The PerlDesk/PerlBill forums are back online!
goto: http://www.perlbill.com/forums/
** Be sure to spread the news **

Actually, we will in fact have access to all (most) of the info from the previous PerlDesk forum. I asked John about that this morning:

Hey
Yes, the old forums are going back up for searching if I can't import the data into the new forums.
I would prefer to import all the old posts into the new forum but I'm not sure if its possible due to the different forum structure on the new install - either way, the old database is intact and will be back up in one way or another.
Best Regards
John
Andrew 11-26-2002, 12:00 PM Cool, then! :)
stephenM 11-27-2002, 04:33 AM PHPManager is extremely basic and PerlBill just looks ugly IMHO. ModernBill owns them both ;)
crypticways 11-28-2002, 10:43 PM From the looks of it, PerlBill looks like a nice piece of software, phpManager does too, but like so many have mentioned..........the frames :( ModernBill looks great, also looks confusing as all get out. :D Customizing it looks nearly impossible.
