View Full Version : DNS Problem

I recently redesigned and took over the hosting of a web site. After all of the new files were uploaded to my server, I had the owner change their domain records with their registrar to point to my server.

They did that and it still brings up the old site. I did a "Whois" search and it says it is pointing to my server.

Why is the old site still coming up? I have never had this problem before.

Thanks!!

How long ago did the site owner update the domain record? It generally takes 8-48 and as long as 72 hours for all the DNS servers to update their records.

Certian cheap/poorly run ISP's only update their DNS servers once a week. And you may also need to flush the DNS cache on your personal system.

I cleared the cache on all of my computers and some others that I use and they all still point at the old design. It has been over a week and a half since the change was made.

Any other ideas? Thanks for the help!

Must be your ISP.

Did you just clear your cookies and temp folder or did you actually flush your DNS cache? I forgot the command to do that, anyone?

from a command lind (dos)

ipconfig /flushdns

Try and see if this service shows the right page:

http://www.anonymizer.com/

Enter the url under "Try Private Surfing FREE!"

Otherwise let some people from different ISPs try the url and report to you what they get :-)

I agree. It must be the ISP if nothing shows up. Actually, I have 3 sets of dialups. When a certain site does not show up as it should, I switch my dial-up. And it shows up. Another thing that you may wish to try... restart your computer (hopefully you are not using the server for browsing or something).

Or you may also check your hosting provider... (might be down?, not sure).

I may be late at responding to this, but good luck!
