View Full Version : Bandwith RATE HYPE!!!!????
TheComputerGuy 04-16-2001, 11:24 PM CENT tells me my connection is at 25.5 kbps, but I am connected at 46.7777, and I am totally going faster than 25.5, Tell me what you think.
http://www.cnet.com/internetservices/g/bm/msn/0001.html
According to them I'm getting 40.5kbps which is actually higher than I usually get, which is 27.5kbps.
Chicken 04-17-2001, 03:08 AM Hyped, I got 983.1 kbps
Tim Greer 04-17-2001, 05:41 AM I surf with Java and JavaScript off, and I'm ..uh... protesting that crap.. or something..., so I can't tell you, but I can tell you that it's not the most accurate thing, that's for sure. I think I checked that before and my 56K modem was moving like 267... I was really impressed... :-)
AlaskanWolf 04-17-2001, 06:28 AM 390.4 kbps here from Alaska
What u paying Chicken?
For 700k its about $99 here
Regards
Mt. Dew
TheComputerGuy 04-17-2001, 07:07 AM well I think it is crap, and everyone should know that, now it says I am at 18.5 when I am connected at 48.8
I think it is a gimmic to try to get you to buy DSL or cable, or something.
Wouldn't do any good to try and market dsl or cable to me, as neither are available in my area.
cperciva 04-17-2001, 09:18 AM 1088.2 kbps. Pretty good for $39/month CDN.
Duster 04-17-2001, 10:36 AM It is way off and seems to report speeds severely slower than they really are in more cases than reporting them faster.
On my dial up connection, it reported 36.5 when I was connected at 49, 666. On my ADSL connection, it reported 405 kbps though I connect at 1.472 mbps.
It is obvioulsy too faulty to be trusted.
klisis 04-17-2001, 10:49 AM hey, strange
I got 172 kb/s on T1.
I got 489kb/s on my aDsl.
Hmm
(SH)Saeed 04-17-2001, 11:11 AM I get 373.8 kbps from Sweden (I usually get 230kb/sec when I download from within Sweden, 20-50kb/sec from USA).

Chicken 04-18-2001, 01:35 AM Mt. Dew, $39.99/mo
I've tried some of these online tests and they all come up differently:
http://computingcentral.msn.com/topics/bandwidth/speedtest50.asp
http://www.spatula.net/proc/bandwidth.src
http://www.intel.com/home/funstuff/calc2_0.htm
DHWWnet 04-18-2001, 01:42 AM hehe mine's at: 1164.1 kbps :)
and below it, says i have toclick here to upgrade ? to 1.5mb ? what's that suppose to mean ?
ReliableServers 04-18-2001, 01:48 AM haha they are all caca. I get different speeds on each of them. according to them my adsl is faster then I can download. granted it could be a little bit off, but 100k? haha its funny.

:D i think they are not accurate , well i wish they are :p
here is my current line speed:
1357.7 kbps
1246.2kbps
http://www.2wire.com/services/bandwidth.asp
1429.1 Kbps
http://mrtg.csgpdx.net/speedtest/speedtest500.htm
alpha 04-18-2001, 09:37 PM 2wire gives me 416.6 Kbps
cnet gives me 741.1 kbps
CSG gives me 1036.6 Kbps
talk about differences in bandwidth tests
I think I beat everyone. I got 81600 kbps. I once got unmeasurable or too fast. I don't believe those tests thought.
SI-Chris 04-18-2001, 10:35 PM I tried it three times, one right after the other. The first time it gave me around 600 kbps, the second time around 300, and the third around 800 (off a cable modem).
I think it's more a test of *their* connection than yours. :)
Tomorrow I'll go and test it at school.... should be fast....

And you are happy about that? :D
I got >400000 kbps (yes, four hundred thousands kbps)! How about that? :D
PS: just try to push your back button several times and you will see some strange numbers :D :D
cheers,
cimshimy 04-22-2001, 03:11 AM I think the most accurate one is dslreports.com's test. It actually uploads and downloads files of different sizes and bases its results on how long it takes.
