Hello:

I can not send nor receive emails on my raq 4. I restarted sendmail, but it stops at 'Setting up Mail Service' then goes to the prompt at the root directory.

Is sendmail not installed anymore? how do I reinstall sendmail or correct this issue?

I appreciate your help, and I thank you in advance for your knowledge.

Anything installed or changed from default on your littl' blue box ?
Do you use the GUI and what does the Services panel say ?
What does /etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail status tell you ?

No. I am only running openebmail, and that does not work because of sendmail.

sendmail (pid 28517) is running.

Are you able to send and receive with a standard client like Eudora ? which version of OWM and how did you install it ? How do you know it does not work because of sendmail, lets you know ?

Sorry but more details are needed to solve a pb like this and help you...Are messages not delivered or do they bounce ? with which message ? What do you find in your system logs ?

Message are sent, but they are returned after a few minutes. when I try to telnet mail.mydomain.com 25, it just sits there. Nothing comes up. port 110 is ok, when I telnet, no port 25.

Seems you cut the error message from the returned email. Copy it entirely for review. What do you find in your machine logs if anything ?

This is the error message. Have you ever had this problem with a Raq?

Ok, I guess you changed your real domain name but now we've got a clearer view of the issue, obviously domain name or DNS-related, not sendmail-caused. (Domain does not resolve).

Check your real domain name at http://www.dnsreport.com/ for more details and see what you get.

My real domain name? Do you mean the DNS server that is handling the domain name?

What are the real domain name you use and email you sent a test message to ?

I have to fix an issue, does anyone know why the trash can is not highlighted next to a domain name. I need to delete it and add it again.

when I click the wrench to edit settings, I get a page not found error within the raq.

I thank you again for your help

More questions:

You ARE sending the mail to existing email accounts right?

Is this a new problem and did it work before or has it never worked?

Do you have the correct entries in your DNS?
A record:
mail.yourdomain.com ---> Ip address
Mx record:
Mail for yourdomain.com is send to the high priority mailserver mail.yourdomain.com

That is probably your main account. The account the server was set up with. Deleting that account is a bad idea.

yes it has worked, but it just stopped. The settings are correct in my DNS setup. I can not send mail to external and internal domain names.

I can not telnet to mail.mydomain.com 25, it just sits there.

I restarted sendmail and it did not complete all the way, it just stopped at setting up mail service: That's it.

Can you help?

Exactly the questions I was getting at, is this domain name supposed to be managed by the DNS on your RAQ ? Is the DNS server setup correctly and prepared for that ?
Anyway you have to update your DNS record at Tucow if you want to do that.
Right now your domain name is on the following DNS :
Domain servers in listed order:
NS.WABWIRE.NET 64.90.166.61
NS2.WABWIRE.NET 64.156.1.247
And you must check the MX record too, the website may work but it's the MX record that handles emails.
Right now the MX record looks fines but your DNS servers do not, see
http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=somersetyoungdems.org
INFO MX Record OK
Your 1 MX record is:
30 somersetyoungdems.org. [TTL=86400] IP=64.90.166.56 [TTL=86400]
All nameservers respond ERROR: Some of your nameservers listed at root did not respond. The ones that did not respond are:
64.156.1.247
ERROR: One or more of the nameservers listed at the root servers are not listed as NS records at your nameservers. The problem NS records are:
NS2.WABWIRE.NET.
If you want to use that name with your Cobalt's DNS you must go through the setup explained in the manual, this is a standard procedure to manage a domain name on a RAQ. (RTFM ;) )

Hope this helps,

Thanks for your help. See, I have two raqs, and a white box. 1 raq is setup to handle DNS. Now all email works on 1 raq and white box, but on the second raq email does not work. If you see in DNS reports, it can not communicate with mailservers. There is something going on with the second raq's mailserver.

It used to work, and now it just stopped. So I am not going to say it is DNS setup, it is a mailserver issue on RaQ#2.
