View Full Version : How to submit to Major Search engine.
signupdomain 11-25-2002, 03:29 AM Hi,
I had add my site to Major engine but I still didn't see my site.
Do you have some way help me to free submit to Major search engine.
Thank you.
NovaW 11-25-2002, 04:12 AM the best route is just to submit your site to dmoz (www.dmoz.com) That will ensure your eventual presence in all the key search engines, but it can take time to get into dmoz
Submitting to Google doesn't do anything - they will list you in their index if they find a link to your site in a site already in the index.
skelley1 11-25-2002, 04:14 AM dmoz is also volunteers, so it takes quite a while to show up (sometimes a couple of months). If you are listed on other sites that their spiders visit, you'll get in quicker, and your rating will go up.
make sure your <alt> and meta tags are up to snuff before you submit. they'll take a snapshot of your site and that's what you get for a while until they revisit.
tagalaxy.net 11-25-2002, 05:38 AM as a dmoz editor, i can vouch for the fact that although it takes time, your site will be reviewed eventually.
Just depends on what catagory you submit into and how busy it is.
Best way to speed up the dmoz editing process?
Pick a cat and apply to become an editor!

I just discovered it last week and learned quite a bit. There are only about 50 posts there; doesn't look like a place where anyone would learn much at all. Maybe it will be someday, but right now... nope. And it's not just quantity that's lacking; it's quality too. For example, from the first post in the Google forum: PageRank does not seem to be very important for Google. More important is for example how many links you have pointing to your website. That posted by the "Site Admin." Know what PageRank is? It's a measure of the links pointing to the pages on your site.
The definitive SEO forum, the one where the pros hang out, is at webmasterworld.com.
Anyway, to the original question: you say that you have submitted to the major search engines already? Give it a couple of months. Google, for example, does a full crawl once a month and updates the database with data from that crawl a month later. So if you just miss a crawl, it'll be almost two months (on the bright side, for the past few months they've been starting to do "fresh" crawls in between the regular cycle, so things are getting better). But, as mentioned above, they won't list you unless you have some other listed sites linking to you.
That's really the thing to work on, for placement at any search engine. The best way to be listed and for good positioning is to build a good set of incoming links. The best way to do that is to build a good, content-rich, informative site -- a site that people will be willing to link to.

Web Hosting Stuff 11-25-2002, 10:19 PM Wait 3-7 weeks before your site may show up in the search engines ... cos they need to spider and index your site on their side ...
hostingquick 11-25-2002, 10:35 PM Can anyone tell me a good, reliable site where I can add my URL to different search engines for free? I have looked around but I keep finding sites where you either have to add their button on your site or where you need to pay a fee. I know it would be hard to make all this submission free for everyone but if a site is famous and has good advertising on it, it would work. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
totlhosting 11-25-2002, 11:34 PM AFAIK, the only [meaningful] search engines you can submit to for free these days is Google and FAST.

Well the Major Search engines will ask money. iF you pay them they will add your URL within 7 days of time but some of them not like yahoo they not giving any guarantee. But i think best thing to do is listed on google and MSN (FREE) After that you can get into other search engines.
Web Hosting Stuff 11-26-2002, 05:20 AM Yah Google is THE place to be listed in. With their Yahoo deal, they're practically everywhere! :D
totlhosting 11-26-2002, 10:47 AM Actually, getting into Google, from what I have read, should be the LAST place you submit to.
You want to be in DMOZ first. Yahoo, if you can afford it. Then the other SE's and then Google. This way, it appears that you have a decent amount of inbound links.
Sure you COULD just get added to Goggle, with about 10,000 other sites, and end up dead last.
I personally don't waste too much time with SEs. They are too fickle and overwhelmed. Unless you can afford a PPC strategy, set yourself apart with a solid, yet simple, offline strategy.
My 2 bits.

You want to be in DMOZ first. Yahoo, if you can afford it. Then the other SE's and then Google. This way, it appears that you have a decent amount of inbound links.I don't see any advantage, though, in delaying your getting into Google until you have those links. They do an update once a month; if you get in the first month with just three links your positioning might not be very good, but so what? You didn't pay anything to get there. Then with the next update maybe you'll have 100 links and better positioning, and a month later 150 links and again an improved position. There's no advantage in waiting; but than again it isn't really an issue because you probably don't have to submit to Google anyway -- if those three links are from Google-listed sites you'll probably get in from being spidered.
So that idea is probably more valid in situations where you're paying to in a search engine that uses link analysis as part of its algorithm -- if you've paid to be in AltaVista, for example.
Web Hosting Stuff 11-26-2002, 12:07 PM Actually it doesn't make too much difference when you get into Google ... cos their ranking is re-calculated every month. So the earlier you get indexed, the better it is.
You may not achieve high ranking with the initial index of your site (the very 1st time), but eventually (in subsequent monthly crawls) you have about the same chance as everyone else to move up the rank - provided you do it right.
OK, my quick free-submission recommendations: first, submit to the Open Directory at dmoz.org. Then, go through free submission forms at AltaVista, FAST (alltheweb), and Google. Assuming you get into all of those, you'll be listed (besides them directly) at Yahoo, Netscape, AOL, Lycos, and HotBot. And since dmoz used as a starting point for some other crawlers, that listing will increase your chances of getting into Teoma or Inktomi by being spidered -- the only other way be listed in those indexes is to pay your way in.
The point is that if you don't want to pay for inclusion today, you really only have four sites to go to.

freakysid 11-27-2002, 06:10 AM Also throw in the SEO and Google forums on www.sitepointforums.com as well - good for people starting out wanting to understand SEO and SE submission. Also check out the articles at http://www.promotionbase.com/

spietreser 11-29-2002, 03:20 AM Search engine submission shouldn't be done automatically. There are a lot of services on the net that say things like "submit your site to 800,000 search engines!"... don't do this if you are serious about getting into the search engines, they can ban your website. Best thing to do is to get links from other websites while always tuning yours to be search engine friendly.
What I did with http://www.seoforum.com was design and provide the SEO community with a place where people can come to learn and teach others about SE's. I won't say that I am a seo expert yet, but I AM catching up quickly. Although some may be a little reluctant to join a starting forum, you should. Now. :D
jolly 11-29-2002, 10:39 AM Almost every search engine have ADD URL or Sumit your site link. But most of them I guess are just for nothing.
But there are couple of softwares which gaurantee Top10 position in major search engines. Anyone tried these softwares.
Web Hosting Stuff 12-02-2002, 07:19 AM Erm I'm rather cautious about these softwares ... alot of their 'tricks' are dangerously close to getting banned. Never used them .. don't intend to waste my $ in that direction either.
