View Full Version : webmail recomendation
winger 12-30-2009, 05:16 PM hello,
we need a recomendation for a open source webmail that support remote SMTP authentication (webmail will be hosted outside the email server).
thanks!
fierceservers 12-30-2009, 05:23 PM I personally like Roundcube, its open source and does support external SMTP servers. Have you any other requirements other than the SMTP authentication?
leanfarrell 12-30-2009, 10:19 PM May be Zimbra?
BloodRed 12-31-2009, 03:47 AM Roundcube is good.
prashant1979 12-31-2009, 03:53 AM Roundcube is good looking and stable. However, watch out for the latest edition as the previous edition was buggy.
LVPSHosting 12-31-2009, 04:28 AM What about http://squirrelmail.org/
keserhosting 01-01-2010, 10:50 AM I like the features of squirrelmail its easy and friendly.

yeah, me too, we have squirrelmail in all our servers, but I was not able to make squirrel works with this settings, maybe my fault.
mrzippy 01-03-2010, 04:10 AM Squirrelmail and roundcube are probably the two most popular "easy" open source software to set up.
Squirrelmail is ugly as sin, but very stable and works well. Did I mention it is ugly?
Roundcube is sleek and sexy, but newer and still has a few bugs (according to reports -- I have not experienced any myself). It's nice to use, though, and is my current favorite webmail program.
There are many other open source webmail systems -- do a google search and you'll find them. It really depends on what features you require.
inspiron 01-04-2010, 12:02 PM I am fan of squirrel mail features.
Softsys Hosting 01-04-2010, 01:38 PM SmarterMail all the way!!
bvsonline 01-06-2010, 11:16 AM Roundcube is a well organized and stable webmail. It is a browser-based multilingual IMAP client with a cool user interface.
:agree:
teachforjune-Scott 01-06-2010, 11:56 AM The problem with roundcube is that it lacks many basic features like filtering that other webmail clients have.
I agree it has the best interface, but it needs to add some basic features beyond retrieve, compose, and send email.
muhlba91 01-06-2010, 01:39 PM +1 for roundcube!
But I had some troubles/problems with it: sometimes it doesn't syncs the database with the IMAP-Server correctly, so I often thought that there were no new mails. Had/has anybody else this problem and solved it?
A very easy mailer is SquirrelMail, which hasn't the above problem and works great, but I don't like it very much because in my opinion it looks nasty, but it works very well! :)
VIPoint 01-06-2010, 01:58 PM First pref - Roundcube
second pref - Squirrelmail

yeah. . . I am also suffering from same problem. So i will suggest you to go with squirrel mail
goldi_locks20 01-12-2010, 12:05 AM Roundcube is very good. Its simplicity and speed does wonders.
jpatton 01-12-2010, 12:43 AM I'm going to have to vote for roundcube first simply because many of my clients prefer the interface. squirrelmail is ugly and it tends to turn off a number of people in my experience. I have looked at skinning it with one of the nutsmail skins though because it does have some nice plugins and functionality.

Cape Dave 01-12-2010, 01:10 AM WOW, did not know about the skins, thanks! It sure helps with the UGLY skin that comes with it. I may have to choose a mail software for those that do not want RackSpace Email which is what I offer for a premimum.
