You may also check out http://www.icann.org/tlds for the 7 new TLDs. ccTLD: For almost every country in the world, there is a ccTLD; visit http://www.iana.org/cctld/cctld-whois.htm for more info. blob2 11-24-2002, 07:34 PM The link your looking for is http://www.norid.no/domenenavnbaser/domreg.html PixelOptik 11-25-2002, 04:27 AM thanks! :D UH-Matt 11-25-2002, 05:08 AM United Kingdom is on there twice, yet they insist on giving us rubbish tld's. Example: list shows .gb and .uk We can register things like .co.uk and .org.uk .... i want a .uk :) :) blob2 11-25-2002, 05:52 AM The reason Britian are listed twice is because at first we were allocated .gb for Great Britian and people could actually register domains under that TLD for a while, but then nominet replaced that domain with .uk for United Kingdom. The way I understand it is, the UK was formed out of four countries England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland where before Great Britian included the above with Ireland. UH-Matt 11-25-2002, 06:00 AM Yes, i know the history.. But its annoying that they decided we couldnt use .uk as a domain. blob2 11-25-2002, 06:06 AM eh? Your hosting site is a .uk domain name so what do you mean? If your talking about only being able to register SLD's under the .uk extension, I think this was a very wise move as Nominet have a total control over the whole TLD by providing different SLD's that represent different meanings. The whole uk name space is very well organised with .gov.uk for goverment, .org.uk for profit-free organisations etc... UH-Matt 11-25-2002, 06:17 AM I agree it is well organised... my original point still stands... I WANT A .UK Nothing to do with anyone else, i just want a .uk domain! Alex042 11-25-2002, 09:12 AM The whole uk name space is very well organised with .gov.uk for goverment, .org.uk for profit-free organisations etc... I'm not sure why the USA doesn't use the .us domain extension like other countries who are actually using their country domain extension. It seems like to me this would be more consistent with the domain rules. So at least the UK is doing something in this case that us Americans aren't even doing consistently. |
