View Full Version : Which domain would you use?
VirtualSRV 12-20-2009, 10:14 AM I want to start a new VPS hosting site and I own a bunch of domains I could use for it.
I just cant decide between some of them and I would like to have some opinions on which one is the best.
These are the domains I will choose from:
BURSTFIBER.COM
BURSTLAYER.COM
BURSTWARE.COM
SYSBURST.COM
SYSRACK.COM
Thank you
HostColor 12-20-2009, 11:03 AM Hope you have registered those! Burstlayers is good, but there is a popular company with a "layer" word in the name and you probably don't want to get into dispute with them. Burstware looks good, the same with sysrack.
VirtualSRV 12-20-2009, 11:20 AM Yes I already registered them :) Thank you for your advice HostColor
sitekeeper 12-20-2009, 11:29 AM I am thinking SYSRACK.COM.. I like BURSTLAYER.COM the best but as Host Color said I see issues with both parts of the name. Burst and of course Layer.
gregm11 12-20-2009, 12:49 PM BURSTWARE.COM
Deroba 12-20-2009, 12:51 PM sysrack sounds good for me
fwaggle 12-20-2009, 01:32 PM I'd go with SysRack just because it's slightly more original than the others. You can't really build a memorable brand being a small company living in the shadow of two giants.
RandomLittleHost 12-20-2009, 01:35 PM There's already a BurstNet & Softlayer around, I'd go with SysRack to avoid any confusion in the future
Hydro_Host 12-20-2009, 02:30 PM SYSRACK.COM sticks out for me. :)
IH-Rameen 12-20-2009, 02:49 PM There's already a BurstNet & Softlayer around, I'd go with SysRack to avoid any confusion in the future
I agree... You want a name that doesn't resemble another company even remotely...I would go with sysrack..:agree:
SwaggaHost 12-20-2009, 03:00 PM As everyone else has said, you do not really want to be in conflict with another company offering similar services.
Even with this not being the case, i would still go with SYSRACK.COM
mbulent 12-21-2009, 12:08 AM I would use a name that would include my search engine keywords. None of them has the keyword VPS in it first of all.
At the end, people will find you on the Search Engines and use your name whatever you choose for it.
Check out the Google for your self. You will see the domains including keywords rank always higher for the keyword;
CoderJosh 12-21-2009, 12:52 AM My vote goes to SYSRACK.COM as well.
VirtualSRV 12-21-2009, 09:22 AM Thanks everyone for their insights
Vinayak_Sharma 12-21-2009, 09:42 AM +1 for SysRack.Com it's a creative name and original too. In short SRC that's sweet and professional.
I won't like my servers to burst in layers. :dgrin:
Geoff101 12-21-2009, 09:44 AM SysRack does it for me. It's unique and as others pointed out, it doesn't sound like other companies.
barry[CoffeeSprout] 12-21-2009, 10:26 AM SysRack is probably best out of the bunch, now on the the next step... a good design
Gawkwire 12-21-2009, 10:33 AM Burstlayer.com for me. It is very easy to say and remember, therefore making it very brandable. Go with that one!!!!
barry[CoffeeSprout] 12-21-2009, 10:37 AM Burstlayer.com for me. It is very easy to say and remember, therefore making it very brandable. Go with that one!!!!
And then wait for either SoftLayer or BurstNET to be really ticked off ;)
ldcdc 12-21-2009, 10:40 AM but there is a popular company with a "layer" word
There's a very popular, old one with the "Burst" name too. I'd stay away from choosing a hosting company starting with this word.
And then wait for either SoftLayer or BurstNET to be really ticked off
Ticket off doesn't mean they would have a leg to stand on in court. Though, the risk of paying all sorts of legal fees is IMHO not worth the effort when there are so many possible alternatives to a brand. :)
Gawkwire 12-21-2009, 10:41 AM ;6555002']And then wait for either SoftLayer or BurstNET to be really ticked off ;)
Softlayer can be ticked off then I guess. They arnt the only layers on the block:
LayeredTech
HostingLayer
LayerSeven
LayerHost
SDL Layer
Fusionlayer
and so on and so on......
Yeah you could say its overdone, but I think the name flows better for me than the others.
barry[CoffeeSprout] 12-21-2009, 12:53 PM So many layers.. it feels like I'm peeling an onion :D
You are right that nothing would come of it, but the first thing that came to mind with that name is "oh boring, yet another Layer ripoff"; that is probably not the first thing you want prospective customers to think
fwaggle 12-21-2009, 01:42 PM I don't even think of the trademark ramifications with stuff like that - I think of how much more difficult it is to gain brand recognition with such diluted keywords.
Look at it this way, I knew a guy ages ago who wanted to start a small company and immediately gain a feeling of comfort for prospective clients. So he named his company after a popular department store in his area. It did absolutely nothing to inspire comfort or familiarity in his clients, only confusion and later distrust in the few folks who thought that his company actually was part of the department store.
You're much better off standing out on your own with a decent, original brand, than you are trying to skate along on something that works for others, because you'll be in their shadow the entire time.
sentabi 12-21-2009, 02:10 PM SYSRACK.COM :)
Quartz 12-21-2009, 05:32 PM SysRack.com seems to be balling. Goes along with what you're doing I think too. My choice it is.
oliviakitty 12-21-2009, 08:00 PM SYSRACK.COM :)
+ 1
In case you need anymore encouragement, lol.
The others are just too close to existing brands.
rgpayne 12-22-2009, 08:50 AM BURSTWARE.COM
Definely brandable.......
AS-Richard 12-22-2009, 10:36 AM My vote is for SysRack. :agree:
Mark G 12-23-2009, 11:55 AM sysrack.com is the best of those
ChainHost-Michael 12-23-2009, 09:55 PM My vote would be sysrack.com
GCosta 12-27-2009, 07:47 AM SYSRACK.COM sticks out for me to .
Good Luck
HTTPbit 12-28-2009, 05:20 AM My vote also goes to SysRack.Com
Cheers!
Masud 12-28-2009, 09:39 AM Its a good think that SysRack and some more names were available...
I too would have gone with SysRack.com, a cool domain!
zombo 12-28-2009, 10:08 AM I certainly choose sysrack; I would not like to be with anything 'bursting'.
It depends, of course, whom you are targetting. All this kind of overboarding, exaggerating and overblowing names look sort of pubertal wannabe...
A name tells something, thats what names are for. You probably intend to sell systems on racks, so sysrack would tell that.
