View Full Version : Idea : Pay-As-You-Go Master Reseller / Your Thoughts
KMyers 12-19-2009, 11:55 PM Hello,
Before I start, I know there are several people out there who would advise a VPS over a Master or Alpha Reseller Account. I ask that this discussion not turn into another one of those threads.
I was thinking about making a pilot "pay as you" go style Master Reseller Account. I was wondering if this is a good idea? I do not like the idea of "Unlimited" plans, however I strongly believe that a user should be able to scale as needed as their business grows. I do think that this is the way to go but was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.
Deroba 12-20-2009, 12:18 AM That would be very useful,as you dont pay what you dont use :)
crazydeals 12-20-2009, 12:40 AM It is a good idea Keith, but I believe having a base price of eg. $3/month and quote according to their needs. I love the powermonster concept, just add one more layer and you get the extra storage/bandwidth you need.

Hello,
My thoughts exactly, I was thinking of a $5.00 base for Master and a $8.00 base for Alpha. This includes 5-10 GB of Space. Each extra GB of Space will run around $0.75 per GB

Thanks for the mention. I'm glad someone is liking our new pricing scheme. :)
JixHost 12-20-2009, 03:00 PM I think thats pretty good. It's kind of like a cloud but on a smaller scale.

Hello,
I would most likely need to make a custom WHMCS Plugin
M Bacon 12-20-2009, 06:26 PM What if your master reseller or alpha reseller uses too many resources? Will your bill be extremely high or can it not go over a certain limit? Will the client actually pay that bill if its too high or will they move to a different host?

Hello,
The prices will actually be fairly low. The way I am planning is the user will pre-pay by the GB as needed with the base plan including 5 GB Space and 25 GB BW. This of course allows the user to pay as needed for the resources rather then overpaying. The point of this is that I want to create a reseller cloud in the future and be fully scalable. In theory it is possible for a single reseller plan to span several servers if needed.

This model would be great - except for the fact that most providers are already charging ridiculously low prices for a large sum of resources.
I do not see how the prices being discussed in this thread are sustainable over the long term.

Very true - be very weary of those extremely low cost providers
SunShellNET 12-21-2009, 04:09 PM The theory is actually simple. But practically it is not possible at this time. At least , it is not so easy
WHMCS doesn't support the "Alpha" or "Master" thing.
The only way, I can tell is to integrate this feature in the Master Reseller / Alpha Reseller script, which include a billing and ordering system like whmcs. :)
I don't think it is easy

I feel pretty much the same way.. Support costs doesn't necessarily correlate with the resource usages so I'm unsure whether such a model is more beneficial to the user in terms of cost savings or not..
That aside, to pull this off you'll need a lot of automation..

People are still charging enough for the right resources like CPU and Memory, eventually, I consider both of these two as the right resource for hosting industries. May be, we will soon get a control panel to sell hosting measuring the CPU and Memory instead of other resources we consider. Considering such situation, a trial basis service can be abusive a lot.
