I have been looking for a friend on a dedicated server, can any host do something like the following:

P3 - 1gig
Dual 30gig HD's (7200rpm)
1 gig ram
50-100gig transfer additional transfer under 4$/gig
No control panel needed he is going to use Ensim
15 ips, additional ip's should be reasonable in price

Willing to pay setup fee around $800 to get monthly fee around $200.00

I don't think you will have much of a chance at that, try asking for around $350 a month.

As most hosts have plans with about a 700mhz processor and 128 megs of ram, about 700$ would cover the cost of the additional hard drive, memory upgrade and processor..

So no I dont think its unreasonalbe and he has gotten a few companies willing to do it, just wants to see what others can do similar so he can make a better choice :)

BTW I was just calculating the cost for a server like this and it was only around 1,500.00..

You could consider building your own.. but I checked the prices, and even with:

256 x 3 MB RAM
PIII 1GHz
Asus CUSL2 MotherBoard
2 x 30.7GB harddrives
Delta 52x CD-ROM
3Com EtherLink XL 10/100

came out to around $1400 without the case.

I got that quote from http://www.xtechnology.com but he does not want to colocate..

How about $1100 setup and $200/mo. We can do that.

$1100 seems high as on your order form you have 500$ to upgrade that ram, and 150$ for another hard drive making 650$. The market price differnce for the processor is around $100 so I would think this would put it all around $800.. setup ?

Ahh, but your sppecifications include Dual 30GB hard disks. That, plus the setup.. and a different MB to accomodate the chipset and memory config = more than $1100, but I will do the $1100 as this is a good price.

Well I will let him know but it seems high as I was able to config the server for a total of 1500.00 and the 1100 is almost that much and we would not own the server :/

Anyhow I will run it by him....

Then why don't you buy the server and colo with either weinbar or me, our prices are similiar, make it easy on yourselve. But remember we are in business to make money not to give away free servers. Bandwidth costs us money, support costs us money, in most cases the bigger the server the more support you need. Maybe a colo option is the way to go.

I do not feel colocating is logical in the event of hardware failure...

Well, I can sell you the hardware, and provide warranty service for it.

That might possibly work. Basically if this was to happen I think it would need to have the same type of support as if it was a rented server (ie if something went wrong hardware wise), but the security for us to take it and move to another provider if we needed to etc.

What would you guys want for something like this?

With colocation you get no support, if the hardware fails, we will replace the hardware for free in terms of the parts, as the parts would be under warranty, but labor will be billed at $75 an hour, 15min increments. Colo pricing please ICQ me for more info. And it will be your server, you can take it anywhere anytime, as you see fit.

Can you either post here or use vb's PM for pricing as I dont use ICQ.
