View Full Version : How to assign same IP to domain.com and ns1.domain.com?

I would like to assign the same IP that domain.com gets to ns1.domain.com but WHM automatically assigns the IP so I have no control over it, which means that the account gets 3 IPs. One for domain.com and one for each of the nameservers. I would like to save IPs only using 2 IPs for each account instead of 3. Isn't it possible to control that in WHM? And if so, how can it be done? - I couldn't see it anywhere.

Thanks
John

The example is possible, if the domains are on the same server.

If you want dedicated IP for a domain.com was created. Login at root account and clickShow IP Address Usage (in Ip Functions) to check IPs available on your server.

- If IP you want assign to domain.com using by other domain/domains you have to Change Site's IP Address (in Account Functions) for domain/domains assigned to other IP to make IP you want assign to domain.com become available. When IP you want assign to domain.com is avalable you can use function Change Site's IP Address to assign the IP to domain.com too

- If IP you want to assign to domain.com is available, use function Change Site's IP Address to assign the IP to domain.com

*I think, the reseller can not assign a dedicated IP to domain was created.

Thank you for your feedback. The problem is, however, that WHM doesn't give you the choice of choosing what IP to assign. It just assigns some free IP - I want to assign a certain IP etc. I have seen it done on another WHM/CPanel server so it must be possible in some way.

My resellers can see all IP available in my server when they create a new account. My server have 15 IPs, but it is still available 8 IPs.

I have no problem assigning an IP to a domain when the account is created. It is how to assign the same IP to its ns1.domain.com when reseller privileges has been given to it.

Reseller Center ==> Manage Reseller Main Shared/Ipless Ip then select a IP you want

I don't think you are understanding the problem nogi needs solved. You only need 2 IPs to have a domain.com and 2 nameservers, not 3 IPs. My domain.com and ns1.domain.com are the same IP, my ns2.domain.com is different. He wants to know how to assign a single IP to both the main domain and the ns1.domain. This IS possible, as it's how mosts hosts set up their reseller accounts. Unfortunately, in WHM, when you create a nameserver, you don't have a choice of the IP, it auto selects one.

Whm uses the main server ip when it assigns a ip to site when it is in auto. If you want to assign a ip to a site that you don't want to have on the main site ip you can change this. To change the ip that you want to assign when use auto is simple:

Now go to /var/cpanel/mainips/

If the directory mainips doesnot exist create it. cd in to mainips and If you are root: pico root

Now place in the file the ip that you want to use when you use auto.

Now when you assign a new site it will use this file with the ip and you are done.

If you have assigened to a reseller an ip you will find his file in this directory.

I hope this will help people.
