View Full Version : Need a good cheap reseller. AND my reviews back.
prospector 12-15-2009, 02:01 PM Hi!!
Its been a while since I posted last and I got some really great feedback. A bit of background. I host well over 500 domains for myself and clients. I currently use a bunch of different resellers including:
HostGator
HostNine
InnoHosting
Host Maven
NetNation
and Powweb
The reason I use different hosts is so that my entire livelihood doesn't rest on the backs of one $25 per month company. I have been with some of these hosts for 6 plus years.
I'm starting a new project that I want an inexpensive host (WHM/Cpanel) host for. I found 247-host that has a really cheap reseller package. (on this site). All that will be on the sites are simple html files.
Does anyone have any alternatives or experience with 247-host. I'm also looking for a really cheap new registrar... <snipped>
Thanks again... if anyone wants opinions on my list please message me here as well.
chown 12-15-2009, 02:48 PM You should buy a good dedicated server and host your clients in that server.
It will give you more control and independece.

Along with more headaches..Even though you can have a server managed, there is to some degree a level of planning and management you need to do. Disaster recovery, backup strategy, hardware & software optimisation.. With a reseller account, so long as it is with a reputable host, they do all this for you, in turn allowing you to concentrate on your core business rather than looking after a server :agree:

Yes, but if you have 500 clients it is supposed that you should know what you should know for manage a web hosting company and the problems that can and will appear and you have to know how to fix, by hands or throught your support.
You can't evade responsibilities. A good managed dedicated server is the best option for him in my opinion...
A reseller plan is recommended if you have less than 50 clients in my opinion. Of course, it is my opinion and you don't have to share it if you think differently.

I would disagree.. We have some resellers hosting a few hundred accounts across many servers...They aren't very technically competent but do a good job of marketing their products. They don't have to worry about any of the server management or being technically able to do things.. They leave it up to us. In essence outsourcing their backend technical requirements, which isn't unusual and quite common... The number of sites you host is in my opinion not an indication of what hosting platform you should be choosing. It all comes down to your business requirements and what option is most cost effective and suitable to meet those requirements.
prospector 12-15-2009, 03:07 PM And what if the one company your with goes to crap.. Having resellers is cheap, and quite reliable for the needs I have. The majority of my clients and sites are simple html pages, with some cgi thrown in.. what my clients are mainly after (and myself) is uptime. Rameen is correct in my opinion, and I have had nothing but good experiences with Innohosting, I just need another option. I did do some more searching on 247 and its pretty ugly out there regarding those guys...

I understand and for that I said that I think a dedicated server would be better to have more control of the domains hosted on the server.
In reseller plans, the reseller depends on the settings from your provider. And customers of the reseller also depend on the provider configuration.
In a dedicated server the hosting company can set its own limits and their own settings, install additional services (for example, imagine that the provider wishes to offer support for Mono).
That's what I meant when I said that on a dedicated server the hosting provider has greater control.
There are hundreds of advantages and disadvantages of a dedicated server in front of a reseller account. Obviously, having more control also means greater responsibilities.

I agree with you there.. But as I mentioned before, it's down the requirements of the buyer.. If a reseller account is meeting their requirements, then I don't believe there is need to change platforms for extra flexibility which they don't really need.. But if they do need the flexibility of a dedi, then that's an option which should be considered.
Rameen is correct in my opinion, and I have had nothing but good experiences with Innohosting.
I'm glad to hear you're happy with our services!
RossMAN 12-16-2009, 12:43 AM It's a shame that Knownhost.com (http://www.knownhost.com/) no longer offers reseller hosting, they'd be my first recommendation.
JixHost 12-16-2009, 09:54 PM This is a common strategy for hosts to have various reseller accounts. Personally I would get a dedicated server, but thats only me.
stellamaris 12-16-2009, 10:03 PM Perhaps hosting resellers do this to diversified also because they don't want to manage a server which involves more of troubleshooting and tech support.
XeHSean 12-16-2009, 11:33 PM The OP isn't asking about switching about whether or not to switch to a dedicated server, he's asking about a new reseller host (just so this doesn't get off topic).
To the OP - what sort of budget do you have? Any specific requirements? This will help us to point you in the right direction
dhcart 12-17-2009, 02:21 PM We have more domains than you. We have a lot of reseller accounts on Hostdime and Surpasshosting. If you are looking for a cheap reseller hosting when try Surpasshosting. It's a member of Hostdime company. They have not phone support. So their prices cheaper.
Canadian Spike 12-17-2009, 03:01 PM I believe Hostnator is a good choice for your case but you still have to wait till they fully launch "14 Days", low prices and 20% off for pre-applies..
