I AM NOT SAYING I HAVE ANY PLANS FOR THIS!
I am just wondering, say someday I am just not making enough money or my program takes off. What is a kind ethical way to stop a web hosting service? I certainly wouldnt want to just shut everything down and leave my customers in the dark.
I know plent about starting and running a hosting co, but have no idea how to stop one;)
AGAIN I HAVE NO PLANS FOR THIS!
This is just a hypathetical question.

Give a months notice to your customers and give a refund for the customers (when they have paid yearly ect.).

Just sell your client base to another host. They take over your server leases [or colo etc] and transfer billing to their system etc.

selling tends to be the ebst way..but you have to be quite careful of whom you sell to...I would suggest selling and maybe notifying youer customers at the same time...not really sure if that would work to be honest

Well I couldnt transfer anything because I own my NOC. So unless they where local and wanted to take over the lease on the building...

Your client base is still an asset that can be sold to another host.

I will have to keep that in mind. I am assuming if it ever happened I could post it in the advertising section?

Sell it and get rid of it.

Yep. You'd need to post number and value of accounts etc. Someone might be willing to purchase them from you. It's doable.

There are plenty of web hosting companies rolling-up mid to large size compeititors.
I don't know if they notify their client base (since I am not one of them).
But I know that people buy and sell businesses everyday.
Why would web hosting be any different?
