Hello,

Im running a search engine, need a dedicated server, unlimited domains, emails, linux, apache, perl, modperl, apache, mysql, php, cgi and all that stuff

I need atleast a 800 mhz, 2 gig storage, 20-25 gig traffic, 256 or 512 mb's of ram, reliable company with 99,99% uptime (know what i mean... : ):D
great support, free backups...

Budget: $250

currently have an offer from rackspace but no backup and $290 for a bit more than what i need.

Are you in need of a managed dedicated server (just what I get from you considering rackspace).

Rackspace seems to have an excellent track record here so you can't really go wrong with them from what I hear :)

If you don't need a managed server you can get what you want from RackShack.net, UnitedColo.com, and FastServers.net

You shouldn't have ANY problem finding a good host within that budget. A lot of people are looking for the $49.99 hosts with 800 gb per month, 100 gb storage, 1 ghz ram..you get the drift.

I just signed up for a dedicated machine at tranxactglobal.com, and can't recommend them yet because I am a new customer. I am paying around $230 with 500gb per month, cpanel, PIII 1 Ghz, 512MB ram, and 80 gb hard drive. I did do a lot of research on them, however, and they seemed to have good uptime and support. You can also search for DV2.com for more info about this company. Another company that came up high on my list were (like Jon said), fastservers.net. I do think they require a quarterly payment to start off if I am not mistaken. So you may want to take that into consideration. Their servers are also located in the world famous HE.net data center.

Make sure in your research you find out what kind of network they are connected too. Are they multi homed, giving their network a better level of redundancy in case of network issues or fiber cuts? If they are you will pay more, but with it comes better stability and uptime. Or are they just connected with Cogent, the cheapest bandwidth available, and from what I have gathered not the most dependable. But the prices are good, and the uptime is good enough for many people.

Finally head on over to the Dedicated Server Special Offers (if you haven't already) and see what is going on over there and run searches on any companies you may be interested in. You may also want to post this over in Web Hosting Requests forum. Good luck.

One other issue i need to take in to the consideration: Connectivity!!!

We are currently with HE.net and i cannot recommend them enough, great customer service, uptime and very good connectivity (fast)

since we are a search engine, that is very important.

The one and only problem with HE is their prices, they charge $500 per month on a server with 100 gig bw, 512mb ram, 750 mhz, 20 gig storage...But no root access.

Yes i am looking for managed dedicated server, root access, mod perl, must be able to run Hyperseek 2000, Jackhammer add on module in the future.
