hi,
im looking into starting a domain registrar company i just have a few questions,

i was going to start selling enom domains,

but wanted to no,

#1. sort of how much should i be looking at selling domains for?
#2. is it worth trying to start because of all the top domains registrars there are at the moment?
#3. whats the best script to use to sell domains?

i just wanted to no mainly is it worth it because im going to be depositing
thosands of £'s into an enom reseller account,
and just didnt want to waste it as they dont do refunds,

so webhosttalkers honest opinions do you think its something worth starting...

many thanx on any comments in advance

I cant answer many of your questions, but the one that I think is the biggest discussion is should you sell domains.

I think as a side business, as far as for a hosting company, or other business, then its great.

If you want to start selling domains as a main business ie godaddy, then you will need 1 of 2 things...

1 a lot of money to advertise
2 A killer interface to use.

Good luck, and hope you come out ahead!

fingers crossed, i will still wait for some more comments from other people and see what they think aswell...

but are you trying to say i should sell webhosting, dedicated servers or something aswell?

I would look into getting WHMCS or even a reseller account with WHMCS so that you'll have an interface where people could order domains through. WHMCS has connections with eNOM and resellerclub I think is the other one. Anyways it should help put you into the right direction.

but, what im trying to work out mainly is is it worth investing thousands into this will it pay off?
because there are alot of companys out there at the moment,

and should i do webhosting or something aswell? or just stick to domains and hope for the best?, where as hosting brings in a monthly income, domains do not, they bring in a yearly income?

Sorry I am half asleep or I would go more indepth on this.

Basically, with the amount of clout and advertising Godaddy and Enom have (I have actually never seen a Enom ad, but whatever), it would be very hard to draw people to your service. With having domains as a side business, you are pushing people to your site to purchase something anyways, and many will find it conviniet to just order the domain when they order hosting, or whatever else it is your offering.

If you want to go into becoming a full fledged domain only offering, then you have to offer things the other ones dont. I know I use Godaddy, but I dont really care for the interface that is used for managing the domains, so you could come up with a kick ass interface, and that would help to strike interest in your service, as well as reviews on major sites, and blogs.

If you dont invest in the interface, then you would have to spend a quite a bit on advertising to push your name out into the open.

I assume you have aspirations to become a accredited domain seller as some point, and I know the cost for that is in the hundreds of thousands (can't remember the exact figure, its been awhile since I was reading it, but its up there).

thank you for your feed back, and yes i do plan on becomeing fairly big, i understand i need a great interface, and im more then happy getting that sorted and done over time, but to start with, before i spend thousands getting that i would need some clients otherwise i mayaswell just withdraw all my money from a cash machine and set fire to it,

this is why im asking, is it worth starting something like this?

or should i run a hosting company or something like this along side of it?

and just so you are aware i have studdyed almost everything there is to no about dedicated servers and hosting alike, so i would be starting but noing what to do, and how to run a server, not just saying lets do this and this and not noing the first thing about it, i no about this things as hav been a webhost before, but family problems happened that took most of my time,so instead of ditching the company i sold it,

any advice would be great

In all honesty, if you are asking these questions... then you should really spend some time on these forums and read read read read. Then read some more.

Selling web hosting is *nothing* related to selling domain names. Web hosting means you must have a server, manage the software on the server, deal with administration of the server, etc...

Domain names means you (typically) just sign up for a reseller account, and use their free sales website to immediately start selling domains and making money. You don't have to deal with servers, scripts, customers asking technical questions, etc...

I highly recommend starting with something very simple, then testing your chosen market to see if there is demand. If so, then do more research and see what is needed to continue growth...

The short answer to your question about whether there is money in the domain selling business... is it depends. What makes you different then the million other people selling domain names? Why should someone purchase a domain from YOU instead of namecheap.com or godaddy.com or networksolutions.com or [insert google search results for "where to buy domain name"]?

Good luck!

amazing thank you, this answer i like because this person sells domains names aswell, this is great because ive never heard of this company, but it just proves that over the top companys this person is able to do it, so why cant i?

i have read and read, but all i wanted to no is, is it worth it,

but i like your way of thinking, why should people register there domain name with me instead of namecheap or godaddy etc etc

thank you for your input =)

As an eNom reseller, you will never be able to sell for as low as actual ICANN accredited registrars, so you'll have to make up for your higher prices with something else (ie support, freebies, etc).

yea, this i understand, but id rather pay abit extra and have a nicer looking domain panel, dont you agree?

Not at all. All that really matters is functionality. Personally I prefer a very simple/basic looking interface that just gets the job done.

If you start a business whatsoever you will have to invest some money and more so dedication and hard work. If you'll become big in the end depends much of your luck and the circumstances (which is the same). Nobody can give realistic advice on that but there's some good stuff given here that might allow you to weigh your options.

bor33d how do you plan on making any money? The bigger companies offer domains to people on promotions at $7.. I can find godaddy promo codes almost anytime of the year to get a $7 domain. The reseller you buy through enom or godaddy sell you domains for 7.90 if I'm correct? You wouldn't get any business I wouldn't think.
