View Full Version : Looking for a reliable reseller company
lomotbiz 12-07-2009, 02:41 PM I am starting a web hosting business and looking for a reliable company that I can use. I am looking for a company that has been in business for a long time and has a proven track record. Also, online reviews about the company will help.
Thanks in advance
HostXNow 12-07-2009, 02:45 PM How about eUKhost (http://www.eukhost.com) ?
I have a dedicated server with them and they are great ! not sure what there Reseller service is like though.
cartikadave 12-07-2009, 02:46 PM There are many to choose from, but it depends on what features you are looking for, what type of customer you are trying to attract with your services (budget/quality), where you prefer the host to be located(servers), what platforms you will be supporting (Linux, Windows, FreeBSD etc). There are too many variables to say which host may be the right fit for you.
praveenkv1988 12-07-2009, 02:58 PM Always go for a host that is not overselling.
Also, make sure your host has good uptime.
lomotbiz 12-07-2009, 03:03 PM I want the ability to provide multiple options for the client. From simple web pages to small business applications. I still have some homework to do. However, I am trying to get a general idea as to companies that have a proven track record. This will help narrow my search.
Also, what are the best specifications to consider for providing hosting services for small business?
Thanks

You can do some market research and you can find it your self. Also each one has there own marketing strategy. Any way you will get a general idea if you do a market research.

Again, that's not much to go on :)
There really isn't a one host fits all as some items are more important to some people than others.
When I had reseller accounts I went to Cartika (http://www.cartikahosting.com/clustered-hsphere-hosting/Hsphere-Ultimate-Reseller-Hosting/) (I think maybe 5 years ago). I found them here at Webhosting Talk. They offer mutiple platform hosting in a clustered environment, along with your complete billing system, ticket ing system etc. They also provide quality support, great uptime, quality hardware, and 30 days of restore points via R1Soft. You also have the ability to sell/upsell domains, Maifoundry, and SSL certificates. I am using a dedicated server there now and am still happy as a clam after all these years.
Now, they may/may not be for you as my "most" important items are quality of service and feature set. To some, it may be their budget that trumps all. So you really have to decide what you want to market your company services as and to what audience you will try to attract.
Quartz 12-07-2009, 06:18 PM There are many well-known and proven web hosts that offer quality reseller hosting. Certainly you will find many amongst the WHT board.
I know in past that HostGator and InnoHosting did well for me. Of course, make sure you understand you pay for what you get and that not everything is cheap.
Lots of options to consider too of course. Especially when it comes towards small businesses, they will be entrusting your company to assist them in making online or public sales through their website, so having a solid uptime record is a huge point to consider when picking the right Reseller company.
CrazyTech 12-07-2009, 06:22 PM Is there any way you could quantify what you're looking for a bit more? IE: When you say a long time, do you mean a couple years, five years, a decade or more? Do you have any idea what sort of resources you need, particularly in the way of space and bandwidth?
As far as small business goes, requirements will vary. I'd suggest looking for a web host that first off has a solid uptime record, that is known for support, and one that is flexible. With small businesses, you're generally going to need a bit more than say just a hobby enthusiast website. They might need to develop a small application or something of that nature.
PremiumHost 12-07-2009, 07:02 PM Always go for a host that is not overselling.
It's not easy to tell whether a host oversells or not. Everyone does overselling at certain level.
The OP quoted 2 criteria which are quite good to filter host either new in business or does overselling too much and no longer in business.
I am looking for a company that has been in business for a long time and has a proven track record.

As many of you mentioned, there are many factors I have to consider. I have been researching for some time now and haven't found the results I am looking for.
How do some of you guys decide who to go with? Do you base it mainly on price? We all want to make as much captial as possible, so I am assuming the company the provides the most resources at reasonable prices is probably best for web hosting?
How do you guys divide your resources for web hosting?
For example, a plan that cost$45 how would you split these resources for maximum profit:
HDD: 20GB
BW: 400GB
Guaranteed RAM: 256 MB
Burst RAM: 1024 MB
Dedicated IP Address: 4
CPU: 4 x Xeon

I suppose the first thing for you to do is to decide which country you want your reseller host in as hosting in the UK is more expensive than say US hosting...

This is not true anymore; although there was once a time this was true; this is not the case anymore.
If most of the clients are from Europe the best thing to do is to start in Europe and if you really do not have a choice; you could look for east-coast USA. There are also providers which offer a mix of both.
HostXNow 12-08-2009, 01:32 PM Whenever I have compared prices the US seem to offer better deals. But I have always found that UK hosting has better network/support/server performance. I guess I was just unlucky with US providers.

Yeah, same with dedicated servers. They are cheaper in the US than the UK.
arkangel88 12-09-2009, 08:13 AM A very good company that you can rely on web hosting is Hostingfest: http://www.hostingfest.com. I have been using this for some time and it served my purposes well. To give you some details, Hostingfest is a windows based web hosting company. It is specialized in ASP.NET, MSSQL 2005 and ColdFusion.
They also provide PHP and MySQL in all windows hosting packages, a thing that I consider very good as far as I'm concerned. They even added ColdFusion 8 recently. I want to add that ever since I used their web hosting services their servers were all the time up so...I guess..100% uptime (my opinion).
I suggest you try them. You won't be dissapointed.
ldcdc 12-09-2009, 09:51 AM arkangel88, please provide a domain that you're hosting with your recommended host. You can send it to the moderating team via http://www.webhostingtalk.com/infraction.php?do=report&p=6535409 if you don't want to make it public.

I may have missed it in the thread but do you have any specification on what you are looking for? ie - Amount of disk space, bandwidth, server location, etc? How much are you looking to spend per month (a reasonable range, not just "as little as possible").
Answers to these questions will help forum members guide you in the right direction. :)
