i move this sites to a cpanel server with 1.7 celeron 256 ram i got a load avarage

so any one can see if this is normal..........

I am gonna go with the RAM. RAM is the life blood of any server.

I am going to expand on that:) I have CPanel setup to test a new feature on my program but I have never used it for business. I do use Ensim which is like the memory monster;) I have set all my servers to 1.5 Gig's of ram to remedy the problem. Are your servers on site or do you do colocation? I only ask because ram is cheep these days and you can go pick up a couple more chips and be golden.

it's the celeron 1.7... the p3 1ghz will run circles around it even if you had 512 in the 1.7

the p3 1ghz has 256k or 512k cache (depends on which one you had)... the 1.7 has 128k cache.

the 1.3 celeron is even faster than a 1.7 celeron on average.

while some things could faster... on average the 1.7 celerons are not good on a linux server. i built a few and have been converting them to p4's... wasn't a good choice.

I think the celerons have a 256 cahce model. I could be wrong but I know I had a desktop with a celeron 1Ghz with 256.

another thing to think about is that the ram on the P4's is double the cost of that of the PIIIS since you can use PC133 on the PIII and only ddr on the P4's.

the more ram you get the more the cost diff becomes.

Just so you know you can use sdram (regular 133) on certain p4 boards.

I wouldnt though. DDR is better and most hosting co's use it;)

DDR 266mhz PC2100 is only marginally faster than PC133 RAM on P4 systems with 100x4 mhz (so called 400mhz fsb they claim to have).

the only way you'll see a difference if you have both servers running the exact same thing and can do the same tests.

now get PC2700 DDR and we're talking a big difference.

the 1.7 celerons have 128k cache... the 1, 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 ghz celerons have 256k cache. thus the reason why 1.3 celerons i feel are better and see them out perform 1.7's.

now i am pretty impressed with 1.7 celerons running windoze though for a budget system.

Why stick with Intel's products?

If you check out some reviews and comments, you might just find that a AMD Athlon XP (or MP for dual) practically cartwheels around the Celeron, even the P4.

It fights against Xeons.

because no one was talking about amd's or comparing two servers..... the poster went from one server to the next and compared those two.
