I've been asked by a client of mine to find the best billing solution for a hosting company. From your experience would you reccomend an SSL certificate and a credit card account (is this all that is requred?) or would you go with a 3rd party company (are there any that are good that you use?)

Greetings,

Both choices have their negatives and positives. Personally, I prefer 3rd party merchant account. You get all the trouble with credit card verifications and SSL away. However, you have to pay more.
For merchant account I would've recommended PaySystems.com but they had about 30 minutes downtime today, so....

Anyway, Good Luck :)

modernbill is very complicated (do you need ssl and a license for credit payment to use it?)

im not talking about something where people log into check invoices and such, I'm talking about a 3rd party company that will process credit card orders for you

also would you need local ssl for modernbill to work, or could you just use a 3rd party company like 2checkout.com for example for payments

A lot of people say ModernBill however, ModernBill has some weaknesses. I think the best billing software out there at this time is BillMax.

Certainly the most affordable (considering how expensive MB has gotten). It's still pretty new so integration isn't the greatest, but if you don't want to spend that much on MB it's a pretty good choice.

Yes, I agree... the licenses are pretty expensive. I would probably get the month fees if I went with them.
