I signed up with Lypha on November 19th. Today is the 22nd. These past 3 days have been frustrating. I'm posting my experience with them so that others don't have to go through this. I'm not saying that they are horrible or a bad host. I'm just saying that I think they are not READY for the big leagues.
They say the first month on shared accounts is FREE
This is not true. They only charge your credit card $1 for verification, but this is still not free. I didn't complain, because it's only a buck. But, they need to advertise the first month on shared plans as being only $1. They would avoid looking like liars right out of the gate, if they did it this way.
Their website it says that account setup would be done within 6 hours.
I figured that I could deal with that...it wasn't instant setup like other hosts, but it wasn't bad, either. Well, when I went thru the signup process, I got an email from them right away. In this email, which confirmed my order, it said account info would get to me within 24 hours. As you see, this is NOT the 6 hours that was promised on the website. But, I let it slide.
Lypha took 23 hours to setup my account and get my account details to me. It was within the 24 hours, so I let it go. And in the interest of being fair, I have to say that they also gave me a free month of service.
Customer Support
Lypha's customer support is NON-EXISTANT. The only way to reach them is to send a support ticket. No email addresses at all. I have sent them many support tickets, and none have been answered. Well, ONE was....but the answer came when my account info came with the free month of service. Too little...too late, is what I thought.
Lypha claims to have 24/7 customer support. They lied. They have a 'Live Support' button on their homepage. When you click it, you get the standard 404 Error page "This page cannot be found"! They also claim to do customer support thru ICQ and other IM programs. But, they DON'T have their IM contact names ANYWHERE on the website!
They claim to have a lot of popular scripts pre-installed on their servers, and to have the capability for clients to auto-install the scripts of thier choice from CPanel.
I did not know that this capability was in a program called Fantastico. They never said what to look for in the CPanel. However, when I found it and clicked on it, all that came up was the Fantastico logo and NOTHING ELSE!
So, that let me know that either they really DIDN'T have this auto-install capability OR that they hadn't installed Fantastico correctly. I sent them a support ticket to let them know that it wasn't working...never heard anything back, and no changes have been made in the CPanel.
----------------------------------------
I contacted them YET AGAIN, and told them to cancel my account. The auto-installation of scripts wasn't a big thing to me...I've installed scripts on my own before. It is not the 23 hours it took to setup my account that's running me away.
It's the fact that I think they flat out lied about having things that they do not yet have. It's the fact that I'm being utterly ignored (and I'm not the only one, apparently) that has run me away.
Lypha probably has every intention of eventually providing the things they say they have. I'm sure of it. But, to blatantly advertise something and then not deliver is bad business. I'm starting to think that maybe this is why they are only charging a buck for the first month.
Well, like I told them. They can keep the buck. I just want my account cancelled. Two "free" months is not enough to make up for being ignored.
So...I'm off to look for another host. *sigh*
