View Full Version : CPanel vs Ensim for the long run
Nadav 11-22-2002, 04:43 PM Hello.
I'm looking at 2 hosts right now
One uses cpanel the other uses ensim.
In the situation where I have to change hosts, I know I can move my cpanel database over from the old host to the new one. Does ensim do this also? Does it do it as well as cpanel?
gooroo 11-23-2002, 05:27 AM can someone reply to this, please?
Lippy 11-23-2002, 06:07 AM From what I can understand its a personal thing, some people like myself are used to cpanel and thus like it better, other like ensim, its a personal thing.

That wasn't my question :) I know it's a personal thing.. I was asking about the differences between the both when moving the database to a new server.
HostInspect 11-23-2002, 12:17 PM We have used Ensim and CPanel for many many months.
CPanel is the way to go.. Ensim? phhh, throw that junk away.
okihost 11-23-2002, 12:45 PM Ahh another CPanel vs. Ensim fight, It's almost as sad as the Ford Guys vs. Chevy Guys
From what I understand of your question you are asking about moving mysql databases, All you would need to do is get a database dump and either give it to your new host or do it yourself via myphpadmin. Hope that helps..
I think both control panels have their strengths, it's really what features you are looking for.
I would have to agree with the above post, both have their strenghts..
Obviously to a certain point Ensim w/ ServerXChange proves to be quite the solution above certain WHM/Cpanel setups, but then again for some people WHM/Cpanel is the best option...
I like them and would recomend them both entirely BUT as of the way things stand now i would most definately suggest Ensim for the long run... throw ServerXChange on your rack with Ensim and your good to go for a very very long time and with easy updates, managing, monitoring, rpming , admining multiple servers etc....
ALSO ServerXchange can help deploy and manage other panels and 3rd party applications.. ensim and serverxchange together are an excellent long term professional solution in my opinion, but can get pricey...
WHM/Cpanel you never own usually that sucks, but all around its great for the majority of situations which i believe is what there intentions are.. some day soon im sure we will see a WHMXchange, lol! And then you can most definately believe the other CP players will be in trouble...
But if your looking at just Ensim alone vs. WHM/Cpanel alone with no other applications, devices, or 3rd party applications you most likely would see WHM/CPanel is your solution.
A nice balance that plugs the gab between Ensimw/Xchange and WHM/CPanel w/phpmanager(or others) is H-sphere. Check into it....
2cents,
f-a_org 11-24-2002, 02:36 PM Cpanel is Good.. and it looks good
ensim is ok but looks awful!
I like to go w/ CPANEL!
I really dont think ensim looks awful, i actually like the design of it.. the color scheme and icons could go.. but the overall layout is or should i say was better than the cpanel skins, but as of late there have been alot of great cpanel skins.. but still i wouldnt call ensim awful, especially since you can customize it:)
Internet8000 11-25-2002, 09:19 PM Yes ensim is highly customizable, not only the "look" with skins,
but also other features can be added, and most importantly
(from my standpoint anyway) is security, ensim places every
account within their own virtual servers chrooted environment.
Back to eye candy, heres one of the ensim skins we use.
Is there a cpanel skin around that can compare ?

Yuck! That template has been around for a long, long time. Okay, the colours are different - WOW!
Tazzman 11-25-2002, 09:40 PM Is there a cpanel skin around that can compare ?A few of my free webhosting users are currently working on some actually ;)
Internet8000 11-25-2002, 10:16 PM Whoops, I think I have fired up the cpanel people, when this
thread is specifically a database related question, my fault....
I would never push peoples buttons intentionally, really  :D
Both use phpmyadmin, so you can manage databases easily,
and do it the same way with either, including transfering
from one or the other.
