Do I need to setup 1and1 to point to geeksrv dns, or geeksrv to 1and1 dns? Also I can't find where I could change the dns settings on geeksrv (uses cpanel 11).

You won't. You require WHM access to modify DNS zones in cPanel. Although you shouldn't have to do that. Simply pointing your domain at 1and1 to Geeksrv and creating the domain in Geeksrv cPanel is all thats required.

Geeksrv's DNS servers should already be configured for your domain. All you have to do is set your domains' nameservers at 1and1 to point to geeksrv.
