View Full Version : Extremely Unpleasent Experience - Jerett Patterson | Carbon12Studio

Pains me to have to sit here and write this review; however, I no longer have the patience to deal with the unfulfilled promises and growing disappointment. I will try my best to keep the post as concise as possible. If you're bored and want to read through all the growing pains, broken promises, our frustration, etc. you can read through the PDFs.

We've been planning to redo our entire site for a long time, but took ages to do it as we were hard pressed for time and finding a good designer seems to be impossible for us. We were finally given a raving review for Jerett Patterson @ carbon12studios, so decided to use him. We were very excited to get started, even put up a blog post (http://seeksadmin.com/blog/vender-partner-reviews/designers-dime-a-dozen/).

Delays started early on. We were guaranteed at the very latest a delivery of 5 weeks. We made other decisions related to our off/online marketing to follow this, which we now regret doing. Long story short, apparently Jerett is capable of doing good work, but we have not seen it. Instead, we've seen months of unfulfilled promises. We stayed quiet while other reviews (this one was most concerning as it was our exact issue (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=887937&highlight=jerett+patterson)) popped up. Jerett assured us that the client was just a difficult client to please and that issue and ours would be sorted. We're in the service business and fully understand that things happen, but Jerett's service in our opinion is just absolutely horrible.

Communication is horrible. The phone number I have for him no longer rings him (hasn't for quite some time.) I have to beg for updates, which typically are something like I'm busy with work..family emergency..another client..vacation/holiday.. We had no problems with delays early on; however here we are ~4 months later and all we have to show for it is a main page psd (which we were not "stoked" about, but settled for because we wanted to get moving) and the header of the main page coded. We agreed to and paid for the delivery of our entire website redone & coded, our blog done, order forms, etc. We paid a 60% down payment and were provided with less than 10% of what we ordered.

We asked very nicely for a refund, after too many broken promises. We were denied our refund and provided with just the PSD as delivery of our project. Frustrated, we went researching our legal options and provided our lawyer with every piece of correspondence. We also spoke with another client who openly posted their frustrations on this board. Unfortunately, that client is abroad and we did not have a written agreement with him. In the end, our lawyer advised us that it would be too costly in time to be worth it. We made an attempt to work things out with Jerett, before publicly expressing our distress and yet again took him up on another promise. Another month later we give up.

(For those bored that would like the interesting read. These were recorded to give to our lawyer should Jerett lock us out of the area. They document our roller coaster ride.)

To his future clients, should you decide to take the risk - I wish you a much better experience than ours. We should not have waited so long to post a review, hopefully no one else is stuck in the same boat. Looks like another review (same issue (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=902575&highlight=jerett+patterson)) popped up also. To Jerett, we've been more than patient and have tried time and time again. We still request and greatly feel we are warranted a refund. At this point, we have no choice but to move on - out our down payment and without our website. Back to the search for a decent & trustworthy designer.:o

Steven, you have documented your experience very well. Best of luck with the matter.

I forget if it was mentioned, but what payment method did you originally utilize?

Man, Jerett really needs to stop offering design services if he can't live up to it. This is the fourth thread in the last two months I have seen about him, best of luck getting your money back.

I will address this post unlike others that are based on loose details.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for SeeksAdmin and wish that this project did not transpire in such a manner. The last few months have been extremely difficult in many ways and did seep into my business relationship with SeeksAdmin.

I know they terminated our working relationship but I can only hope they will allow me the opportunity to put some my trash away and provide them with a site they want.

To SeeksAdmin: Because of the nature of what has transpired, I will finish the site at no additional cost. If this is something you would like to talk further about, please contact me. If not, I understand.

It's interesting.

I've followed every single one of these threads about how Jerett has screwed up another companies plans.

This is the first one where he offers an explanation, however, I think it's due to the high level of publicly posted documentation of which is resulting in his responses.

I think everyone needs to take a lesson from this guy -- Get written contracts. Especially if you deal with this guy.

I had seen his work, and considered hiring him. Not any longer. I don't believe his reasoning for offering to complete the project is genuine. I believe it's due to the shi*-poor position they placed him in.

I'm sick of seeing threads like this, all over the same person.

Get your act together or get out of the business altogether.

We normally call such persons liars, but in this case, I don't even think there's a word that describes him.

It sounds like once he has your money he doesn't really care when it gets done, taking holidays, time off and enjoying himself seems to be more important that completing the project.

I've not had a holiday or a full day off in 3+ years and I'm sure many people on WHT are the same.

Hopefully you can get this resolved.

I agree. You should not take on anything you can not, or will not deliver on. If you take on work and you have a holiday planned within that period, you should at the very least, inform the prospective client of this before accepting the contract.

I haven't had a holiday in 14 years myself.

There are a few threads regarding Jerret's business practice, all ending in a similar fashion.

Jerret, your refund policy is very unethical. It would not be hard for somebody to accuse you of taking on projects with no intention of completion.

If you are having so many personal/business/family difficulties, why not give realistic time scales or cease doing business?

Your ruining your name, which is a shame as you are clearly a talented designer.

As stated - this is the only case that has any real truth behind it. So if you want to continue bringing in other cases that are based upon false accusations, then that is clearly your choice.

Please get on the bandwagon and continue bashing to help yourself feel better. :)

If this is the only one that has truth to it, then why are the previous issues the same story?

I wonder if you live off scamming people now. Perhaps he has another name he does is scamming business under as well.

If this case has merit, why don't you just refund the guy since you clearly did not deliver 60% worth of the project?

Well maybe the money was spent by him again.

As I have said in many threads regarding this guy, you should not spend the money until it is confirmed to be yours, which is when the project is fully completed. It does not matter even if you have family members who are dying and needs the money, you still cannot spend it as it is not your money yet. This may sound harsh but it is the truth in a business world. We are conducting business here, not charity.

It's sad that someone being paid a fairly decent amount showed such contempt for their client.

I quite liked the 2nd design he did for you, but to me it appears he just wasn't doing the work and was doing other things.

If he actually focused and worked at least 9 - 5 every day then he could have easily hit your deadlines. It's a shame for $2k he wasn't prepared to do that.

Jerett either start putting in the time or stop altogether.

Same here. The other topic complaining about him and his business had a PSD link which I looked at. For the amount the client paid for, I wasn't really seeing the difference between 650 and the large price paid for that PSD.

Otherwise, he is talented from the sites he's made, that I was able to track down. Such a shame to see talent being wasted like this.

SeeksAdmin deserves a refund, plain and simple. You've already thoroughly demonstrated time and time again that you're incapable of seeing a project through to completion.

I'm glad to see that WHT took away your retired moderator tag and I hope they follow that action up with a ban for scamming other members.

Jerett,

I've always been a supporter of you and your services! I have recommend you to many people who have contacted me in regards of purchasing a web design. I'm not questioning at all your design abilities, but I really do think you should stop taking on any further projects. It appears that your having trouble with meeting design requirements, time frames, and seem to be having some personal issues from what it sounds like. I do not think its fair for your buyers and friends to have to see this type of service from you. I really do hope that you take a look, at whats going on and get everything back on a clean slate. In the mean time I suggest anyone thinking about purchasing from Jerett to not even provide a 50% down payment, but pay a down payment based on the small progress increments.

http://carbon12studio.com/sa.jpgI would like to see it as well. Besides the three royalty-free icons that he used (IMO the only part that makes it any better than a $50 design), it looks like he took about an hour to whip it up. No self-promotion intended, but I know for fact it wouldn't take me any longer than that to do. Most likely so he could come up with something quick to show the client after months of waiting.

Pathetic at best. Congratulations again, Jerett. You're really living up to your reputation here at WHT. ;)

Did not really post this thread for other designers to bash Jerett's talent and skills. (That statement is not really directed to any particular person just in general.) Wrote it to share a very unpleasant experience that we were going through. To share a learning experience - get everything in writing, and pay with a credit card not with PayPal balance.

The portfolio & mostly the very raving reviews we were given by reputable third parties are what made Jerett stand out above all others at the time we chose to go with him.

While I'm still very disappointed that four months down the line we're still site-less and communication throughout was iffy, Jerett has publicly & privately offered to complete the job & rectify the issue. I'm hoping all is well with whatever the personal issues were that caused this issue. I do like his work, and as such will be taking him up on his offer to resolve things - and hope not to be disappointed again.

Will update my review once we've finished.

Wow, that's a pretty terrible experience. I'm sorry you had to go through that. People like that give the rest of us a bad name. I hope you find better luck in the future. I do think you should get a refund. 60% Down? Man, that's intense.

As a client, I don't think you should ever really "settle," as you so put it. After all, it is your web presence.

Will update my review once we've finished.

I posted this on December 5th. Frustrated & disappointed, but still in a sense anxious to get the task at had completed and this chapter behind us. My last reply from Jerett was a couple weeks ago. He assured us all issues had been repair, communication would be restored, and we'd have a completed - fully functional website/order forms - all that we originally agreed to back in the MONTHS ago.

Well, here are the final results of our experience. From the time this thread was originally created to date, this is the additional work that has been created:

http://carbon12studio.com/client/seeksadmin/site/administration.php

A very barebones, incomplete page, which was no were near completion. That is it, one subpage not even completed in an additional 4 weeks.

I've made every attempt to patiently work with Jerett in private, and even expressed remorse for the frustration that led me here to post in the first place. I attempted to log in today to check on the status of our refund request, to find that without any communication or reply from him all access had been disabled. Here you can view our last bits of communication.

No work getting done... (http://seeksadmin.com/carbon12studios/SeeksAdmin%20site%20redesign%20_%20The%20Subs.pdf)
Ignored Refund Request (http://seeksadmin.com/carbon12studios/SeeksAdmin%20site%20redesign%20_%20Url%20Change.pdf)

In conclusion, this has been a horrible experience. Months of our time wasted with no positive end result. Jerett has taken our deposit, has NOT provided what was agreed to, and now apparently from his lack of replies & deletion of our access has disappeared on us. I would not wish this type of experience with a designer on anyone.

I originally posted this in the WHT Lounge where his other complaints are as well, but this thread was moved to this less trafficked forum - where I presume it will die down in the archives. Hopefully the search & google will allow other users to see this experience.

Jerett (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?u=126151) - No words for you. Only you know how incredibly patient & flexible I've been. Like I told you months ago, we surely felt like mediocre unimportant clients. What a way to confirm that!

Happy New Year!

Overall Rating:
Jerett Patterson | Burlapwool > ShoulderTree > Carbon12Studio > OSGreen/OtherSideGreen > ??? (Yeah, we wondered why the need for a brand change so many times - I guess we know why now...) 0/5 Rating!

Im so surprised by the designers in this industry. They establish an amazing reputation with a huge clientele and then they throw it away because of over booking and communications. Im sorry to hear about what happened to you, i read these stories every time on different forums.

The worst part about it is that it makes it harder for other designers to work because then you get a client who is always worried about loosing his money. Ive had many clients come to me after they took a loss and i have to admit, there were some shocking stories.

One in particular is Anthony from fantasycreative but im getting off-topic now so let me just say that i wish you the best of luck with this case.

@ Jarret... your done here ... After seeing the documentation the Community leaders should banned you account from WHT for being a scamer.

Please note when you take a job on and are three to four months behind you shouldn't have time to go shopping with your wife... stop spending the clients money and complete the task that you agreed on or give a FULL REFUND.

It's really sad to hear such a great web designer ruining his name due to what it seems to be, pure laziness. If you don't have the time to complete a job then why take on the job at all and make promises you know you wont keep? You don't seem to care about refunding his down payment when they was only a simple client scammed out of their money. It's really sad honestly, I wont be surprised if WHT does ban your account for scamming a member like SeanK mentioned.

Obviously you should do what you feel is best for your business, Steven.C, but my sincere advice would be to demand and push for a refund and not get sucked into his games once again.

Any legitimate business person would immediately issue a refund at this point . . . especially after having admitted fault publically.

Jerret you screwed up mate, probably should have worked harder to rectify the situation before Steven.C felt it necessary to go public, let alone talk to a lawyer.

Did you have any written contracts/work agreements in place Steven.C?

Well, as we finally found a good reliable designer (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=979623) and completed our website elsewhere, I figure a final update to this thread and a close to this chapter is due.

We have NOT received a penny towards any type of refund. I don't have the time, nor interest, in digging up proof (like I did earlier in this thread) of my incredibly high levels of patience and flexibility in this matter. We have been willing to create very flexible payment arrangements in an attempt to get our refund, but to no avail.

Looked into the legal route, but eh, been advised that although its a slam dunk of a case with all the documentation we have, it'll be costly to run and a whole new uphill battle to enforce a won judgment.

So, to Jerett - you win , we give up for now. No time left to pursue this any longer. (Funny how you have time to browse all the pages of our site last night - as the live chat monitors show - but can't reply to my request that came moments later for an update.) Stolen money in our eyes, but hey you live you learn.

To those reading. If you're doing business online with a freelance type operation that you have no experience with - use an escrow service.
