View Full Version : Please help! I banned myself!
manhal 11-28-2009, 10:08 PM After trying (4-5times) to log in to my WHM panel, I'm now banned! I can not even access my website !!
What can I do? How long will I be banned? How can I unlock the band ?
Well, I can access my website from another computer/network and I already tried to look at "IP BAND MANAGER" through the cpanel but I couldn't find any IP to be un-banned ?
Thanks in advance for your help... !
Ps. please note that this is not for resetting my whm password as I do remember my access info but the only problem is that I can not access it!
HOD-Jardin 11-28-2009, 10:18 PM If you are on a static IP, login at a different location. If dynamic, just restart your router.
SnoorkAdvertiser 11-28-2009, 10:23 PM It looks like you may have been banned by the server firewall. In order to resolve the problem you must login to your server and remove your IP address from deny_host.rules file (/etc/apf/deny_hosts.rules). If you are not on a dedicated server or unable to access the /etc/apf/deny_hosts.rules on your server, I highly recommend contacting your hosting company and providing them with your IP address and requesting for a removal of your IP address from the firewall.
FreshFroot 11-28-2009, 10:28 PM Banned from your own website.... yikes! and yet ironic :p
Hope you get it resolved.

Do you have a static ip or dynamic ip, if you have a dynamic ip you can reset your modem to get a new ip and relogin.
PogiWeb 11-28-2009, 11:18 PM Send your host a message and ask for them to unban you.
Sparrow-Sean 11-28-2009, 11:26 PM Are you the owner of the Service/Webhost, Or, Your a client of a webhost?
I think there is some confusion happening here, If you are a client of a webhost, Just contact your webhost and they can un-ban you from their firewall and you should be able to access your site once again ;)
njoker555 11-29-2009, 12:24 AM if it was blocked by brute force protection, you should be able to login after a while (depending on the settings) - if it was perma blocked by firewall then contact your host. If you rent the server, you s hould be able to contact your datacenter and give them your password so someone can login and unban you.
You should add your IP to the whitelist (assuming you oown the server) so that this doesn't happen again (also assuming your IP is static)
Nickos 11-29-2009, 03:39 AM Or just use proxy.
Or just use proxy.
is it safe to login from proxy?
cpoalmighty 11-29-2009, 02:02 PM It should be safe to login from a proxy. Although there might be some technology in place to monitor if you used a proxy...normally it only does that.
Nickos 11-29-2009, 03:19 PM is it safe to login from proxy?
Hmm,be quick and change your root password after that if you want to be 100% sure. :)
He can ssh from the other server. He can reset router. He can find another ip address. He can even use his mobile phone to log in.At least 10 ways to do it.
Im glad I could help ;)
VIPoint 11-29-2009, 03:37 PM Yeah .. You can login with a proxy . There is no harm in that

I'm curious if/how the OP solves this as there are a few options available.

fortunately i have a dynamic-ip internet provider hence restart/reset my modem/router solves the problem, now i can login to my panels.
however, just out of curiosity, i almost looked everywhere to find out where is stated that my previous ip was actually banned but i couldn't find any, oh well it is not that important anymore as now i can login with my new ip
ticketforge 12-03-2009, 12:50 PM Hello,
You can check this from WHM >> Main >> Security >> Security Center .
gregm11 12-04-2009, 01:56 PM Try to SSH to the server, you can login and clear your IP out of the CSF config file. Also, Cpanel does a temp block before you are permanently block, so wait and try again a few hours later.
ticketforge 12-05-2009, 07:56 AM Hello,
You can find it in your WHM >> Main >> Security >> Security Center. You will find the blocked ip there. But if the ip has been blocked by the firewall installed in your server, you need to know which firewall has been installed and then proceeding accordingly. Or put a ticket to your hosting provider.
If you are using APF. We can provide you a free WHM plugin to install and manage APf firewall. at http://scriptmantra.info/apf_interface.html .
