View Full Version : Anyone still using ModernDNS?

I signed up for ModernDNS the same time I moved from PHPManager to MB back in 2002 and was lucky enough to always get support through Enom directly when needed.

I tried to open a ticket a little over a week ago and was told by Enom they will no longer support resellers and I would need to contact ModernDNS directly.

Well since then I have sent emails, made called (no answer) and tried to find a way to get support (I can login to the ModernDNS site but have no opens to do anything) and the only thing I can find is a way to purchase support which I don't think it what I need and is for actual Paralells software support.

My issue is I have a domain a customer paid for through Oct 2010 but two weeks ago quit responding and the DNS was set to the default Enom NS. Meaning a customers domain is down and at this point there is absolutely no one I can get a hold of.

Any suggestions as to where to go from here? Can I dispute with Enom over the domain? At this point I would just like the domain back up and then we can deal with the other issues but there is absolutely no response from MDNS (Similar to my Moderbill issues years ago btw)

Secondly what can I do to protect myself and get from under this 'reseller' I would like to find a way to deal with Enom directly again. Can I somehow push all my domains to another account so that I do not have to go through this again if my next reseller bites the dust?

I knew when signing up with MB that having a reseller account under them might be an issue, but again I always got support very quickly from Enom so I was not really worried and at that point saving a buck per domain would save me a small chunk of change and there did not really seem like there were any other options that would work well with my billing system integration.

Thanks for any suggestions

Best is if you can have an account with Enom directly (you need big money to get lowest rates), or you can get hold of a reliable Enom reseller and push those domains to your new account.

BTW can't you just change the NS back.

Yes I think I am just going to try and get an account with Enom directly, it's a buck more per domain but worth it if I don't have to go through this anymore.

The domain is no longer under my domains so I can't even see it. Checked whois and it also shows the 2010 date.

Had the same thing occur. Ended up getting an account direct with enom & paid out an obscene amount upfront to get the same pricing levels. Haven't moved my stuff over yet, but I've noticed important domains going missing from within our parallels moderndns account..

Simply bad news trusting 3rd parties who have absolutely ZERO interest in your business.
Note that if you pay $4k upfront in 'points' you can get the same pricing level, or $7k to get one dollar per year cheaper. ;)

I am sure Enom must be having a system in place to help you out if the reseller is not helping/responding.

Yeah, it consists of 'Get bent, go contact your reseller for support'.

That's a big issue if they treat sub resellers like that.

Still Op can try by providing good enough proof that the main reseller is not reachable, not responding or has vanished.

Yeah I have heard it is pricey :( Honestly I do 100-150 domains a year, the money is not a big deal really it was just convenient at the time I picked up MB and had been manually registering them through Godaddy so while I did quickly think about it I never imagined I would be in the dark like this :(

I am giving it until Monday and then I will start calling every number I can find.

Pretty much, I think they got sick of the workload (Can't really blame them) so it just want not something that could be predicted.

I would be more than happy to pay a reasonable fee for 'yearly support' the same way cPanel does if they offered it.

Again I am hoping on Monday I can get someone on the phone. Domain is registered with the customer as the registrant etc so I may be able to get them to push a transfer to somewhere else using that email but I am too afraid that it will only further complicate the issue.
