I use Chili soft on my servers and it works great it has everything my customers hav ever needed. Apache ASP is not a complete solution by any means and it's still a little rocky. Of course Chilisoft is $500.00 per license...

What are some features in ASP on windows that you can't offer on a *unix box with Chilli?

I was talking about problems with Apache ASP, the only incompatibility with Chilisoft that I know of is Access DB's as Access DB's will not work on a POSIX machine. If you want to play arround with it let me know and I can setup with a demo account on one of my servers.

Chilisoft ASP is supposed to be a better solution than Apache ASP because of the VBScript support on Chilisoft which is not supported on Apache ASP. Apache ASP uses Perl to simulate some of the functionality, but native ASP uses VBScript. Although Chilisoft doesn't provide all of the functionality of ASP 3.0, it is supposed to provide most of the functionality of the older ASP 2.0 as well as ADO 2.0.

After looking for hosts that support ChiliSoft ASP here lately, it seems as though the choices are very limited. Most of what I'm finding are Cobalt RAQ servers. I've had no problems with RAQ servers, but from what I've seen, most hosts use the built-in Cobalt control panel and don't typically offer any more elaborate control panels. Other than the $500 price tag, is there any other reason this isn't installed on more servers?

Other than the $500 price tag, is there any other reason this isn't installed on more servers? Well....first the price tag is a big piece, although volume users do get much better pricing. In addition, the overhead which accompanies unix ASP solutions such as ChiliSoft also costs in terms of server capacity.

More importantly, it's just not the ideal solution. ASP on a unix just doesn't perform as well and doesn't generally have all the newest features. For those who have compelling reasons to need ASP, they generally have very high demands for its performance. Therefore, in my opinion, it is just better to go to a Windows environment for it. (Note: this comes from someone with 99% of my servers unix).

How many Windows hosts have mySQL installed though? About the same amount of Linux hosts that have ChiliSoft ASP probably so it's basically a toss-up if someone wants both.

well that's not true, most windows host that I know run a sperate box just for thier clients to enjoy MYSQL or other unix type SQL's. also on a well balanced system you increase the chances of easy back-ups and high uptimes on the databases
