Since I've received so much help here in the past with finding the right software, I thought this was the best place to ask about this. I am in need of a Knowledge Base Management application that is capable of running on an Intranet.

The company that needs this currently has a knowledge base and FAQ application but it is not working the way it should. What they need is something that allows them to document procedures and documentation, have a search function (preferably advanced search capabilities) and have administrative controls. It would also need to allow accounts to be created for each person adding procedures and documentation. Most likely the procedures will get saved to a database and since it is local (Intranet) then it would probably need to support Access ODBC or MySQL. Unfortunately, it must be free.

I was thinking of using phpbb and just customizing it for their Intranet but I wanted to have a few different ideas before presenting them with what could do the job.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I can't suggest anything other than for you to check out www.hotscripts.com

If you check their php section you will be able to find quite a few FAQ / Knowledge Base scripts. Some Free, some not...

That's the best advice I can offer as I haven't tinkered with many of this type of scripts.

Good Luck

Hi!
Are you looking for an existing application or for the development of a custom application? For an existing application, you could always pull the KB portion (and associated admin backend) out of one of the many Helpdesk suites.

Preferably, I'd like to have an application that is already built and just needs minor customizations. I have setup phpbb and it looks like it may work but I want to present at least two options. I have checked out hotscripts as well as a few other script sites and there are some promising items out there. Thanks for the tips, however, and any more are definitely welcome.
