Unmetered on a 100Mbps port? Do you guarantee any kind of minimum throughout, or could there just as easily be 100,000 people simultanously on the same switch trying to get 10,000 KB/sec?

bummer6666
11-21-2002, 04:48 PM
yes you`ll get 600GB/month minimum

How high of a speed can we burst to, and will other clients bursting to high rates effect my transfer?

there is no cap however should your bursts (10Mbit and over) negatively affect our network we`ll sugest dedicated plan or capping your server

unlike other companies we don`t like capping our clients at 2Mbit to get them their 600Gb/month and we never did. If we have excessive bandwidth we don`t mind you using extra. 10Mbit burst are fine with us but what happens quite frequently is that people abuse not being capped and it has negative impact on other clients (packet loss) thats when we step in.

Neither do I. If this weren't "WHT" I'd call them something a bit more effective ;). I've had mine/another clients account frozen. They are pretty screwed up (I haven't hear any of this crap though since ebay took over). I still use them though because they are pretty universal. Anyways sorry for the off topic post.

No Jason you can't. And anyone in a shared environment who would say that would be a liar.

At RackShack also in order to constantly stream at 10mbit you have to buy a 10mbit server from them for (I think) 399$/month.

THIS is shared pipe, means that people share it. Period. FDC always takes care of not to fill those pipes up too much with users but NOONE can guarantee you a steady stream. If you want that then you have to get a dedicated bandwith solution and not a shared one. Same @ FDC as everywhere else.

If you do the math, take some 50$/mbit cost, then you will automatically see what I just said for yourself.

I wasn't really interested in the technical aspect of being able to - I understand the limitations of thier pipe. But thanks anyway.

Let my clarify my question then... I would be using a LOT of bandwidth, but I would be happy to cap it. What is the highest cap I could have? 5mb/s? 10mb/s?

Again, let me assure you that you are looking at the wrong solution then... Why not ask Petr (email him) about a 5mbit solution? I don't think it will be big bucks and exactly what you need. Looking at THIS solution with the 600GB/month SHARED b/w, only because overages are not charged, is the wrong approach.

He guarantees you 600GB/month minimum. That does NOT mean that you have a steady flow on there. On my boxes I sometimes have 1MB/sec+ but sometimes only 80k/sec (although rare).

From my FDC-Reselling Experience I can assure you that I had exactly this discussion over and over and over again. Face it: You get 600GB/month. Period. Your advantage with FDC is that you do not have to worry about overages whatsoever. I think that is VERY "elite"!

don`t want to post any misinformation, but at the current state of the affairs and our new DC opening it seems that we should be multihomed with Cogent in 3-5 months

God knows. I don’t like to post bad things about companies.
But I exhausted all attempts to handle my situation with fdcservers.
Currently my server is down for the whole week and I see that somebody took any real actions to take it up.

I have signuped couple days before FDCserver were disconnected from Cogent.
I ordered a server on 22 October and they charged my CC. Server was promised to me within 3 days. Well I got it in 2 weeks. All that time my numerous emails were ignored. Well if that would be an only issue it would not be a problem. It happens.

But… Instead of AMD XP 2000+ I got AMD XP 1900+. I was happy that I got at least something and did not complained about it.

Ok server worked about 10 days but a week ago it went down.
Real problems started from that moment.

- for the first day they stated that server had bad memory and they’ll fix it asap.
- next day I asked what happened to the server and why it is still not up. Another tech blamed us that we installed some security configuration that prevents him from logging inform the console and that is the reason they still have not brought it up. The fact is nobody installed something like that on the server.
- Ok finally they proposed to reinstall OS. I confirmed that they can reinstall OS.
- 2 days of waiting. During that period nobody answered my emails to support@fdcservers.com. After sending out emails to all emails I could find for fdcservers I finally were contacted.
- Now they said that they have not got any confirmation from me (strange I sent emails to support@ almost hourly for 2 days) and asked again to confirm reinstalled.
- Again I confirmed it. Again waited for the whole day.
- So next day server again down. I again sent drop email to them asking this time for the full refund including setup charges since. I did not got the server they promised and from the moment my CC was billed server were in my disposal only for about 10 days.
- This I got a quick reply that they STILL have not got my confirmation for reinstall and they will reinstall server within 10 hours. Ok. I decided to give them another chance and sent my confirmation again.
- In about 7 hours I got an email that server is reinstalled and is up. My monitoring software hosted in 2 different datacenters have not registered that server ever becaome available on the net.
- One more request for full refund as it were more than enough for me. The support guy answered that he was mistaken and server was just accessible inside data center.
- Well almost another day passed. Server is still down and nobody answered my requests for refund. I’m going to visit my bank and request a charge back.

So if you ever see some offers from FDCservers or any their resellers – RUN, RUN away FAST.
They are very disorganized. I was very patient with them to allow them to do their work. I personally think they just plaid games with me telling me tails about not received confirmations, etc. – none of my emails were bounced back otherwise they are VERY unprofessional and disorganized if they can not track customer requests.

The source of all problems is FDC servers themselves.
They are running promos but still cannot keep their existing customers happy.

First off I am very sorry about your experience. Just wanted to leave my comment on above quoted part as I am a (the biggest) FDC Reseller.

We always have empty servers already online. Once a client had a RAM issue and FDC fixed it within 2 hours. Nevertheless the client got an alternative server (same specs) within 5-10 minutes. ;)

My apologies NocSol

It was too stupid of me to generalize my experience with FDCServers on their resellers as I had experience only with FDCServers. Some of their resellers could be a honest businesses that value their customers and are able to compensate FDSservers faults with their knowledge and resources.

Once again NocSol and other FDCservers take my apologies.

I wish you being lucky doing business with FDCservers.

z555
11-25-2002, 06:43 PM
I can say even more. I was totaly not right when talked bad words about resellers.

After seeing my post NocSol have contacted me and offered his help in solving my problem with FDCservers.

As a result couple hours later I got a note I got a note that charges will be refund to my card within next ~10 days.

I would like to personaly thank rob from NocSol for this.
He was very prompt.

In overal I'm happy that my issue finally was properly handled. Well, problems may happen to anybody. The main thing is how you handle the problem.

I guess if I got that server through NocSol I would have much better experience.
