The first poll was just the phones I was looking at getting. However I wanted to make a better to find out what everyone prefers.

I might have said iPhone if it weren't on AT&T. When I had the awful Instinct, I used the iPod touch to do some away from the laptop work as long as I had a wireless connection.

Right now, I'm using an HTC Hero and it's working quite well. I can do almost all of what I need. My only issue now is logging into DirectAdmin. It won't let me. It just brings up the login screen again. Not sure what the issue is. It works on the iPod and on the Pre, so I'm not sure what's different on Android. They all use the webkit browser, but something must be different.

I have terrible luck with blackberries, went through 3-4 in a few years then stuck with my Moto Razr for a while (obviously not a smart phone) but now I have an LG Xenon and it's great.

I just dropped my BlackBerry and got a Droid. I love it. Very simular to an iphone almost. I think if they do some more refinement it will improve.
Plus you can create apps using their java sdk and just install it.

I'm surprised to see that the iPhone is only up by one vote. Do all the apps really make that much better? Do you think it will maintain this lead for long?

I believe so. It can only get better.

iPhone is too big to fall now. Apple won't let it. If it starts to slip Apple will intervene and will come out smelling of roses again :)

iPhone is the only platform developers are actually making money developing for, which is why it is and will remain the predominant consumer/small business smart phone for the forseeable future.

It's funny how people keep suggesting the iPhone because they can use SSH and other server monitoring tools. As if those tools aren't available for other platforms as well.

If you actually need to SSH into your servers often, the iPhone and it's virtual keyboard FAIL miserably. The BB's screen would also be much too small. The only phone that's even remotely suitable for doing basic server administration is a Windows Mobile based phone.

I own an iPhone and a BB, and I've owned Windows Mobile phones in the past... and in general I do NOT prefer them. However for this purpose they win hands down. Get a nice big touch-screen based one with a slideout keyboard... like the HTC Touch Pro, and you're good.

What about android phones. I think they are at least comparable, if not superior, to windows mobile.
