Looks like RackForce is down again for the third time in 2 days. I appreciate their email to me about the scheduled work, but this is different - but when I tried calling about this downtime their lines were busy like they were working on their phone system.

Anyone know of this new recent outage?

They're probably swamped with calls.

EDIT: Back up now.

Ordinarilly I figure "eh they're just rebooting their routers" or something - and I don't call, cause downtime is so minimal.

This concerns me, however.

EDIT: Looks like they're back up...eight minutes total.

"there was a very small corruption in the code uploaded to the primary router which caused a variety of seemingly unrelated routing and bandwidth limiting problems."

They were updating the firmware on the primary routers at the time. They are gettin ready to add a third upstream.

Contact them through the ticketing or by email for further clarification, its easier than phone sometimes.

8 minutes and you barley ever get downtime, but that little bit makes you come to this forum and whine?

Doesn't make sense.

Maybe clients should only complain once the uptime guarantee hasn't been met? Just a thought.....

This would stop all those damn annoying "UC is down!" threads.

I come here to see if anyone might have heard about the downtime before I did. That's about it.

Downtime is subjective. You never really know how long it's going to be.

Goodnight!

I was just thinking of moving a box to rackforce. I'm concerned about this "downtime". Not to slam jayjay (he works for rackforce? ;), but *any* downtime is unacceptable.

Comments good and bad about rackforce?

Keep one thing in mind, it is impossible to have no downtime. If your requirements for a host are 100% uptime, I don't think you'll find anyone that's been around a while, and you certainly won't keep them forever.

Every provider will have some downtime.

Yes, I realize that. I do not expect 100% uptime. I DO want something around 3 decimal places though (99.999% which is a touch over 5 min/yr if my math is working ;). 99.99% (about an hour/yr) is not acceptable. I am more concerned if lightening strikes at rackforce.com often. I was also concerned (well, more annoyed really), that someone would dog someone else for complaining about downtime that appeared to be a growing problem. 8 minutes for a serious problem is pretty good. More that a few in the last couples days is not.

My company has had boxes colo'd at a few different places in the last 6 years. At no point with those providers would I have sent an email anywhere stating "down again for the third time in 2 days".

Hence, my original question.

I agree. I'd like 99.999% too.

I don't think this downtime at rackforce is a growing problem, just the continuance of a short-term existing problem.

Hey Everyone,
I thought it would be a step forward to jump on the forum. I am the Support Manager for RackForce, and yes, we had a schedualed maintenance period which, like anything on paper looks is a text book install that went a little bad.

We are upgrading the network. That means better service across the board for everyone.

Its never as simple as it sounds, and there are always issues that come forward in production that did not come through in testing. However, I can only say that the network is improving as we are dedicated to our customers.
