I've seen claims they are the largest color provider in Atlanta. I've found one thread with two negative posts about them. Has anyone else used their services ? Any other comments ?

I would definitely recommend them. Top-notch service, and an excellent new datacenter. thesmallguyshost 11-21-2002, 02:07 AM New? You mean they have a new DC they moved into or the company itself is new ? cbtrussell 11-21-2002, 02:16 AM I think they actually claim to be the largest colo facility in the southeast, or have the most customers, or something similar, which isn't even close to being true from any perspective that I can see. Capital Internet provides a very good value for the cost/service level they offer. I will tell you they're not sitting on top of a lot of infrastructure, so don't expect to find a carrier class facility if you were to ever go there. It's kind of a barebones, come one come all type of place... fairly low rent if you know what I mean. (Sorry, Vlad!) I can't speak to their service level or support, I've never been a customer. I've been down there several times looking for a place to house some offsite backup servers, the staff is always quite nice. I do know they're adamant about charging $4 per IP, which was enough of a turn-off to send me looking at alternatives last time I was down there. I know some guys charge for IP's to enforce conservation...but $4? Come on. I wouldn't trust my mission critical boxes to go there, they're just not set up for that. But gamers, etc. would probably love it. Any questions? Feel free to drop me a line. My 0.02, Brandon Disclosure: Technically I'm a competitor as I am in the colo business, and AP up there is a reseller. Just FYI. thesmallguyshost 11-21-2002, 04:24 AM What other alternatives did you find or have you found in that area? neonlexx 11-21-2002, 09:20 AM I think robin should lay the smack down on global compass.... I think some of the people who actually run that DC have a few screws loose at times. thesmallguyshost 11-21-2002, 11:22 AM :eek2: umm.... i didn't say that :) qps 11-21-2002, 02:51 PM I've heard positive and negative things about them - drop me an e-mail - I've done tons of research on providers in the Atlanta area and can tell you the plusses and minuses of just about all of them from either experience, or from things I've heard from their customers. AndyP 11-21-2002, 06:04 PM By new datacenter, I meant that they expanded their datacenter within the same building. It's much nicer than the other room they use -- this one has the raised flooring and such. By new, I did not mean new company or new building -- just a new expansion. clocker1996 11-21-2002, 06:31 PM ive heard negative, and nothing but negative (friend colo'ed with them) Josh C. 11-21-2002, 08:12 PM Originally posted by jkehe I've heard positive and negative things about them - drop me an e-mail - I've done tons of research on providers in the Atlanta area and can tell you the plusses and minuses of just about all of them from either experience, or from things I've heard from their customers. Originally posted by clocker1996 ive heard negative, and nothing but negative (friend colo'ed with them) I would be interested to know those details too. Why not sharing all those details with everyone.. Thats the point of the discussion. Or is it too personal??lol qps 11-22-2002, 04:42 AM I'm pretty confident that if I posted my findings for all Atlanta providers that I would end up getting banned. If you want to know the ins and outs of a specific provider in the area, drop me an e-mail... thesmallguyshost 11-22-2002, 11:01 AM i sent an email.... thanks. staceyalyson 02-15-2005, 11:38 PM Run away, run away!!!! They are a huge hassle to deal with. I would use them only if I had to find something for $50 per month. sailor 02-15-2005, 11:56 PM how big do they claim their fcacilty is now? staceyalyson 02-16-2005, 12:01 AM Well, they added another room. They do let you put just about anything in there, so it is a decent place to "get started." But they do not seem to understand that their customers (like me) expect to receive good service. My primary grip with them was this: they wanted a number of us to change IPs. They gave about 30 days notice, which was OK. A hassle, but tolerable. I emailed and spoke with them and planned to switch to a subnet. They then dropped the ball and suddenly expected me to switch my IPs with little more than 24 hours notice. They put me in a real bind! Anyway, probably a better for casual users. sailor 02-16-2005, 12:06 AM Originally posted by staceyalyson Well, they added another room. I know that they jujst moved from Marietta FiberNet (in fact, that is why I was forced to switch IPs -- the old IPs belonged to Marietta FiberNet). I get the impression that they have limited access to other pipes. They did have more than a few outages last year. I think their power was always OK, and they do provide UPS plus generator backup (so you don't need your own UPS). But their pipes are not as reliable. mgphoto 02-16-2005, 01:56 AM They are a very, very small colo company. They have limited technical staff or ability. They have 1 bandwidth provider and limited or no battery backup. The whole "data center" is about the size of a 2 bed room house. We tried putting one of our extra name servers there. I moved it out in less than 30 days. I want you to think about that. This was just a backup (ns5) and we took it out before the month was over. qps 02-16-2005, 03:03 PM Wow, someone dug up an old thread. staceyalyson 02-16-2005, 03:17 PM Your point? is? I "dug up the thread" when I searched for colos in Atlanta -- the search tool happily digs up threads :-) Got any value to add? |
