Should I go with GoDaddy for Domain Name Transfer?

Finally I transferred my Web Hosting and am ready to Transfer my Domain Name. I have only 1 Domain Name

I am thinking of transferring my Domain Name to GoDaddy. But I have heard that GoDaddy is used to throw Unnecessary (Unwanted) services/charges to it's users, maybe I have heard wrong.

So should I go with GoDaddy? Any suggestions/precautions from Knowledgeable members here on WHT? :)

Kindly help me as this is my First Transferring Process and am a NewBie to Transfer Thing. Your responses can help me a lot

Thanks and With Best Wishes...... :)

No, no, and simply no.

They have really bad business practices and don't follow ICANN regulatory requirements all the time. You also can get a load of junk from them in your email. Transfer to a registrar like DynaDot and you won't face a single issue.

I've had no issue with GoDaddy whatsoever. Transfer is smooth and I receive no unsolicited mail.

I use Godaddy for my domains and have around 50 domains there. They send a mail like once a week but every mail has a promo code which is great. I don't mind 4 mails per month.

Well they are lot better than most of registrars out there and prices are good. Their hosting might not good but as a domain registrar they are my favorite.

NameCheap is a reseller of Enom. I was told that their support's pretty good though prices are high. If you have only one don't price would but much of a problem.

I currently have 16 domains at GoDaddy and don't have any problem with them. Haven't gotten any bad emails or anything like that. I've never used their hosting though.

You can save a buck going with DynaDot over NameCheap since they're on sale now for dot coms. Otherwise you save 35 cents during normal pricing. You can save over a buck with Moniker.com. Just go to ICANN's list of registrars, pick out a few, do some research, look at the prices, etc. Doesn't hurt to shop around.

No, godaddy is too big to care, even if you had 100-1000 domains if you start to run into any issues you might as well forget it.

Plenty of other domain company's out there that will earn your business instead of putting on tv commercials.

Good customer service is what sales products not what's too hot for tv.

Some of the folks that have alot of domains with them will learn the hardway how they too will be left in the dust and godaddy will have the upperhand since they horde your billing information & will make moving anything impossible.

I love Godaddy because of the coupons which saves me hundreds of $ for renewals.

What I hate about GD is the slowness of its interface and confusing shopping cart.

I have transferred at least 20+ domains to NameCheap.com from other domain registrars. The whole process took about 4-5 days from start to finish.

NameCheap.com did not push extra services/products or make me go through 200 pages to check out. You should be able to sign up for an account, request a domain transfer and submit payment in under 2 minutes.

I have no problems at all using GoDaddy. I think they would be fine for 1 domain. As an alternative, I'd suggest Name.com. Their control panel is good and a lot faster than GoDaddys.

I can suggest namecheap over godaddy. Their interface, speed is much better then godaddy.

Godaddy does not seam to be a good company at all. I have a domain name I have trying to transfer for years and still have not been able to. I just gave up and hardly ever visit their site again. I simply visit to renew it and that's about it

I'm not a godaddy supporter but I have no problem with transferring domains from/to godaddy. The only thing that I don't like is their 60-day hold rule.

I would suggest godaddy. They are the best domain registrars, with more customer satisfaction than any other domain registrars. Go with the best.

In realtion to the post that started this tread;
I actually have to contradict many of you guys on this topic. I have used godaddy fore over 6 years and have never experienced any issues.
I use them to regist all my .com, .net and .info domains.
I have never contacted the support team and have never experienced any issues.
There control panel is simple and has handy features to help manage my 126 domain portfolio.
Another great feature is the pricing and the easy transfer where if you after market a domain you can transfer it to any other godaddy account.

What many people don't like is their terrible support (which you say to have never contacted) or the fact they are always trying to sell something to you.

That, and their cheesy, overdone website. Even on a high speed cable connection, it's slow to load and if I was epileptic, probably would cause seizures. Wait, it does anyway!

LOL very true.
Yes you do get a lot of e-mails and banners on there site especially on the checkout process, but obviously we all fall for it as its proven successful that's why they do it.

This.

If you don't have problems with godaddy, go for it.

But be warned, there ARE issues. If you're like me and never got an email sent regarding an expiring domain you'll be slapped with an $80 redemption fee or opt to helplessly watch while your domain name is being auctioned off.

Don't believe me? It's in their ToS.

Also do a search on ripoffreports for godaddy.

Frankly I'm glad my domain that was affected by their policies wasn't that big of a deal. I'm moving off my main domain though.

Even if they address this charge I've seen and read too much to stay with them. Dynadot and namecheap all the way.

I have to correct myself on ONE part.

I just found a site that explains the INCANN endorsed process and that the entire auctioning and redemption fee process was not formulated only by godaddy.

I'm sure the forum regulars know, but an old school user like myself finds this practice retarded to say the least.

While that process isn't godaddy's fault, the fee and the not updating the user or administrator on the expiring domain name, as well as cashing in on the auctions is still under their jurisdiction. Godaddy does not always contact the user when a status changes minus if you're trying to transfer a domain name off their servers. Then and only then do they do a bang up job contacting you and trying to keep you from going.

And even if I have to go through this hoopla with dynadot or namecheap at least they are not in the practice of auctioning off domain names. Godaddy meanwhile has a nice handy auction portal right off their main site. Add that to their upselling and I think it's clear who the winner is.

It's not godaddy imo.

The onus is on you to renew expiring domain names, but in cases like these I prefer to renew with a company that doesn't fully go with the full INCANN experience.

I second that. Therefore I prefer NameCheap for my domain registrar.
One more thing I like NameCheap, they provides WhoisGuard for free :)

Godaddy does try and push you into buying more of their services, but in no way are you obligated to.
